Phillies Answers Questions

George Phillies was one of the first to annonce his candidacy for the 2008 Libertarian Presidential nomination. Phillies is a school teacher and sought to be the party's national chairman this past year but, failed to win the seat.

Phillies answered these questions for the The Conservative President 2008.

1. Why are you running for President?

Libertarians need a respectable Presidential candidate. Libertarians need someone who explains our plans in simple, clear language. Libertarians need a Presidential candidate who spends their money honestly and effectively. I am that candidate.

2. What makes you the best candidate?

I am credible: I have a long record of Libertarian Party activism. I have run successfully in local (university) elections. I have run for Federal office before. I have strong professional credentials, a doctorate from MIT. I focus on building the party, not on building me. There are no skeletons in my closet: No arrests, let alone convictions. No bizarre conspiracy theories. No unfiled tax returns.

3. What is the top issue of your campaign?

My nominating campaign issue is "run on issues Americans care about". What do Americans care about? End the War on Iraq. Border safety. Budget Deficits. Educate our children and grandchildren. Energy and the environment.

4. Do you believe you will be able to gain the support of social and fiscal conservatives?

Conservatives: My platform is at http://www.phillies2008.com/issues. It's your call.

My plank "End the grandchild tax" (pay off the national debt) and "No More Budget Deficits" should attract fiscal conservatives. I'm the opposite of the Bush Republican party that gave us the Bridge to Nowhere.

Modern "Social Conservatives", people who want to use government to impose their deeply-held religious beliefs on others, should remember that when those others are running government, they may inflict their religious opinions on you. Libertarians want to protect social conservatives; we'll make sure social liberals can't force their beliefs on you. Also, I will work to repeal that Mark of the Beast, the Real ID Act.

Libertarians say: "Uncle Sam should keep his hands out of your bedroom, your gun vault, and your pocketbook".

5. What do you think of Gene Chapman's campaign?

The significant Libertarian candidates are myself, Steve Kubby, and perhaps Christine Smith. Kent McManigal has shown remarkable strength in some polling. Gene Chapman is running for the Constitution Party nomination. His campaign planks are appropriate for that party, which is generally antiLibertarian in its attitudes.

he is so not conservative I dont vote for Republicans or Democrats. I normally vote for a third party candidate but this guy will def. no get my vote I mean the question was do you believe you can gain the support of conservatives? and I should have never clicked on his issues page when he said it was our call. Your not Conservative if you like this guy! Pro Abortion, Pro Gay Marriage, Pro Gun Control shall I go ON?

Pro Gun Control?

Wrong. George Phillies is a Libertarian not a liberal.

Assuredly, I am opposed to gun control. The government has no business in your gun locker.

"Libertarians want to protect social conservatives; we'll make sure social liberals can't force their beliefs on you."

Does this also work conversly, meaning that you want to protect anyone else from a social conservative forcing their beliefs on others?

Anonymous said...

Does this also work conversely? Yes.

[[ Libertarians say: "Uncle Sam should keep his hands out of your bedroom ]]

That sounds good on the surface, but the problems with homosexuality and abortion go outside the bedroom. The homosexuals constantly want public acceptance of their perversion. If they keep it in their bedroom, none of us would care or notice. It's when they "proudly" flaunt it and demand our tolerance and approval that is when it becomes a problem.

Also, if the fetus is a human baby, why should a woman have the right to kill it? Do I have the same right to kill my four year old as long as I do it privately?

Anonymous said...

Give me a break..a four year old and a fetus are no where near the same..

Anonymous said...

Both a fetus and a four year ARE humans and should not be terminated.

Anonymous said...

Hmm...a four year old and a fetus? Well for one it would be a crime if you killed a four year old..as for a fetus..legal beagle..thank god for rights

Just because killing a child before it is born is lega, does not mean it is right.

The fact still remains that both aborting an un-born baby and killing a four-year-old ends a life.

{{ a four year old and a fetus are no where near the same }}

A four year old and a 14 year old - or a 40 year old, are no where near the same either. Is that criteria for killing?

A ten month old baby doesn't usually walk, speak, or even eat meat. They can't exist without their mother. Does that mean it's not immoral to kill them?

If I am not mistaken I thought a Libertarian was a person who uphold principles of individual liberty. Especially of thought and action. And perhaps also strongly oppose and government interfering in their personal lives...oh and in favor of legalizing prostitution..but don't kill a fetus..god forbid..

These people are not libertarians...They can be anti abortion because there is a small chance that they will live their lives without being brutally raped, pregnant, and having the child to only end up commiting suicide. People will argue about abortion forever. It will never go away..people will keep having them. So why can't people just deal with it and get over it?

Libertarians are on both sides of the abortion debate. They are mainly on the side to support abortion rights, but they do not endorse abortions. They especially wish to cut off funding for abortion, which occurs in "our" government currently. If a person is to get an abortion, it's "their" responsibilty to be able to afford it. They need to responsible for themselves and the baby. The case of rape does skew the responsibilty issue to some degree. The arguement on abortion comes down to when is a fetus a life. At this point, personal liberty starts creeping in. Interestingly, there are "direct" references in the Bible that state life begins at the quickening(which occurs at about 3 months). The so-called Christians that say life begins at conception "infer" some earlier date by vague biblical passages.

Excellent article. I wish I had read before doing my site - but I'll make some changes. Thank you. I was very reluctant to see your article the first time I saw the design of your blog. But I was very surprised by the position that you have written.
