Romney Plans Leaked

A 77 slide power point presentation put together by the Romney campaign has been leaked. The presentation compares Romney to Rudy Giuliani and John McCain.

In the memo John McCain is refereed to as being to "Washington." McCain is also called "uncertain, erratic, unreliable leader.”

The memo also says that Rudy Giuliani's support of both abortion and civil unions for same sex couples could destroy the "GOP brand" (this would mean Romney has done his share to destroy the "GOP brand").

Adams Wins Poll

Independent Steve Adams won the February poll here at the Conservative President 2008. Out of the 240 votes cast Adams received 46.67% of the vote.

Former Alabama Republican Supreme Court Judge Roy Moore came in second with 17.08% followed by Republican Rudy Giuliani with 12.5%.

Paul In New Hampshire

Congressman Ron Paul was in New Hampshire recently. Paul said that he thinks "the Republicans have failed to live up to their commitments to smaller government."

The Congressman and 1988 Libertarian presidential candidate also brought up where he stands on the War in Iraq. Paul, unlike the leading GOP contenders, has been opposed to War and still is. "The worst thing that could happen to al-Qaeda is for that war to end," Paul said to a crowd of supporters.

Congressman Paul also mentioned his future political career may be involve leaving his home state of Texas: "If this exploratory committee doesn't go well, maybe I ought to consider moving here and running (in) a statewide race."

Cox Makes It, Others Bow Out

Republican John Cox made it to a luncheon in Iowa on Saturday despite the bad weather. Former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson and Kansas Senator Sam Brownback backed out of the meeting due to the freezing rain.

"I made it in and they didn’t. So that says something about my dedication," Cox told the group who came out despite the weather.

The Chicago businessman also took a stab at the Democratic front-runners: "I’m excited about the prospect of what this is going to mean for America. I think there are some real changes that are necessary. I’m hoping that this campaign is not going to be all about who Hillary and Obama raise money from. I hope it’s going to start to talk about issues and the future of this country."

Warner for McCain

Virginia Senator John Warner will not be backing fellow Virginian Jim Gilmore for the Republican nomination. Warner is officially backing Senator John McCain's candidacy.

"America's next president will be challenged by a range of diplomatic and security issues of unprecedented complexity largely due to growing, worldwide terrorist threats. Senator McCain's long experience with, and understanding of, our military coupled with his proven, unquestioned courage and leadership, provide him with the essential qualifications for our next president," Warner said.

Hunter Hopes for Conservative Backing

Duncan Hunter is hoping to gain the support the conservative base of the Republican Party, "For some candidates the conservative constituency is an inconvenience. For me, it is my hope," said the California Congressman. Hunter is pro life and authored the legislation calling for a 854 mile fence to be placed along the Mexico boarder.

Baldwin: 'Red Carpet For Illegals'

"Short of sending Lear jets or stretch limousines to pick up illegals, our political and corporate leaders have done everything in their power to put out a huge red carpet invitation for them," says 2004 Constitution Party Vice Presidential candidate Chuck Baldwin.

Baldwin goes onto say "All in all, President Bush has been the single most influential cheerleader for illegal immigration that America has ever had. It is little wonder he can speak Spanish more fluently than he can English."

The possible 2008 candidate for President ended his article by saying "We are not going to have many more elections available to us, folks. In another 8-10 years, it will be too late. By then, illegal immigration will have become so pervasive that our country will be unrecognizable and unredeemable. The time to act is now!"

Romney On Abortion In 2002

What it looks like is that Romney changes his stand on abortion when it is popular.

America does not need a President that changes his stand on issues when it is popular. America needs a President that will stand up for is right, when it is popular and when it is not.

Giuliani Takes Strong Lead

The liberal former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani has taken a strong lead over his challengers for the Republican Party presidential nomination.

Giuliani has topped the crowed of Republicans in six recent polls. In each poll Giuliani finished on top with 28-38%. John McCain finished second in each of the polls with his highest score being 22%.

A lot work will have to be done between now and 2008 if there is any hope of having a conservative as the next Republican candidate.

Ron Paul - Supporter of the Constitution

Republican presidential hopefull Congressman Ron Paul is known for voting against many bills that are voted on.

Radley Balko of Fox News reports that "Paul isn't a reflexive contrarian--he doesn't oppose just to oppose. Rather, he has a core set of principles that guide him. They happen to be the same principles envisioned by the framers of the U.S. Constitution: limited government, federalism, free trade and commerce -- with a premium on peace."

Romney Takes Stand On Stem Cell Research

Mitt Romney is not backing down on his stand on embryonic stem cell research.

"I believe that science is able to receive the stem cells necessary for research through means that don't represent a serious moral problem," Romney said yesterday.

Did McCain Flip-Flop Or Not?

"I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned," Sen. John McCain told a crowd of Republicans on Sunday.

Does McCain really support what he said? Just eight years ago during his first campaign for the White House McCain said he didn't think Roe v. Wade should be over turned.

McCain says that "It is a false claim to say that I have changed my position." What? How can that be a false claim? When you go from not supporting something to supporting it what else can that be but changing your position?

The only false statement concerning this issue is the one McCain said about not changing his position.

Jeb Leaning Towards Romney

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush appears to be getting behind Mitt Romney's candidacy for President.

"Governor Bush said, 'Before you commit, I want you to meet Mitt Romney. He is the kind of guy you will like no matter what.' The governor was very candid about the fact that he really liked this guy," says former Florida Lt. Governor Toni Jennings, who served along side Bush.

Chapman Ends Camapiagn (One of Them Anyways)

Gene Chapaman has ended his campaign for the presidential nomination of the Constitution Party.

Chapman calls the Constitution Party a brick wall because they won't return any of his calls or e-mails and says that the party is dead.

Chapman tells his followers "Since you can't do anything with a brick wall, I'm asking my followers to come on over to the Libertarian Party and get involved with our campaign here."

Chapman is also seeking the nomination of the Southern, Goldwater-Reagan Conservative, Independent, Reform and Boston Tea Party parties.

Gilmore on Marriage

Former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore has taken a stronger stand on gay marriage than both Rudy Giuliani and John McCain.

"Jim Gilmore believes marriage is the union of one man and one woman and as President will oppose gay marriage and so-called civil unions," Gilmore's web site says.

McCain On Marriage

Senator John McCain has published this statement on marriage on his new web site, www.johnmccain.com.

"As with most issues vital to the preservation and health of civil society, the basic responsibility for preserving and strengthening the family should reside at the level of government closest to the people. In their wisdom, the Founding Fathers reserved for the States the authority and responsibility to protect and strengthen the vital institutions of our civil society. They did so to ensure that the voices of America's families could not be ignored by an indifferent national government or suffocated through filibusters and clever legislative maneuvering in Congress."

Do you really think that the Founding Fathers ever thought the issue of gay marriage would ever arise?

Imperato Looking For Reform Party Nomination

Independent Presidential candidate Daniel Imperato is now seeking to revive the Reform Party and be its 2008 Presidential nominee.

"While the nomination of the Reform party may be, I am creating a movement to better America. There is something that many Americans feel but don't know how to express. That feeling is the need for political change. America has grown tired of the same Democrats and Republicans, politics as usual. I am asking the Reform Party and every American around the world to support me to revive the Reform Party, and reform Revive America," Imperato said.

Imperato will be speaking to the Florida Reform Party State Meeting this weekend and a dinner will be held in his honor Friday.

Gene Chapman is also seeking the nomination of the Reform Party.

Campbells for Huckabee

Iris Campbell, wife of the late former South Carolina Governor Carroll Campbell, and son Iris have endorsed Mike Huckabee for President.

“The Campbell family has a pretty good history of picking out people others haven’t considered in the top tier,” said Huckabee.

The other son of the former governor, Carroll Campbell III, has yet to endorse a candidate.

Romney Makes It Official

Yesterday former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney announced that he an official candidate for President of the United States.

"I do not believe Washington can be transformed from within by a lifelong politician. There have been too many deals, too many favors, too many entanglements -- and too little real world experience managing, guiding, leading," said Romney.

Romney is facing a problem of convincing the conservative base of the Republican Party that he is pro life and against gay rights. Another problem Romney is facing in his campaign is his Mormon faith.

Hunter the Conservative to Choose?

"If you're looking for someone who can represent the conservative wing of the Republican Party in 2008, California Congressman Duncan Hunter fills that bill far better that any of the top contenders who have already gotten into the race," says John Hawkins.

He then goes onto to list the reasons why Hunter is the best conservative, to see the explanations for each title go here.

John Hawkins' Resons for Duncan Hunter:

1. He Is The "National Security Candidate."

2. Good Fences Make Good Neighbors

3. His Trade Position May Be a "Bug" To Republicans, But It Can Be A "Feature" To Democrats

4. He Has Lots Of Mileage, But No Heavy Baggage

5. To Know Him Is To Love Him, Or At Least To Like Him Better Than McCain

Obama On Abortion

What would Barak Obama do to prevent abortion? To answer that question just look at his record.

While serving in the Illinois State Senate he voted to use tax payers' money to fund abortion. He even voted against giving babies that survive abortions medical help, how caring is that?

As the Life Issues Institute put it, "Be aware Mr. Obama is not a friend of preborn babies."

Savage Considering Run

Conservative talk show host Michael Savage is considering making a run for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.

"I know it sounds bizarre but when you consider the people running for the presidency, none . . . seems to be qualified," Savage told NewsMax.

John Lillpop of the Conservative Voice said that:

"President Michael Savage in the Oval Office would be a blessing to America, and would be a positive answer to millions of conservative prayers.

"Savage is the conservative's conservative--a man who would make Ronald Reagan and Goldwater beam with pride."

But, is Michael Savage someone we really want as our Commander in Chief? Savage starts off his radio program with music by Metallica and these words: "Warning: The Michael Savage Show contains adult language, adult content, psychological nudity. Listener discretion is advised."

Adams Not Scamming

Recently a comment was made on this blog asking "How long will the blogs let Adams pull his polls numbers scam?"

The answer is that Steve Adams is not pulling a poll number scam. What Steve Adams is doing is putting links to what polls he is included in on his web site and it is up to his supporters to vote for him in the polls, like is with any candidate.

Giuliani Leader Among NH Conservatives

Despite liberal stands on social issues, Rudy Giuliani is leading the Republican field in New Hampshire among conservatives.

"McCain has been currying favor with conservatives. But despite his views on abortion rights, gay rights and gun control, Giuliani seems to be rallying conservative voters in New Hampshire," CNN reports.

Thirty-one percent of New Hampshire conservatives said that would choose Giuliani as the next Republican nominee for President compared to 20% for John McCain.

Baldwin Hopes for GOP Switch

Rev. Chuck Baldwin, the 2004 Vice Presidential nominee of the Constitution Party, hopes to see backers of Ron Paul, Duncan Hunter, and Tom Tancredo come to the Constitution Party if one of them does not become the GOP nominee.

"So, here is the sixty-four million dollar question: What will principled conservative voters do in 2008? My hope and prayer is that after failing to receive their party’s nomination, Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, and Duncan Hunter (or at least one of them) will leave the party and bring their (his) followers to the Constitution Party (CP). In all likelihood, the CP will have ballot access in over 45 states. It is already the third largest political party in the country and is currently the fastest growing political party in the nation. A national leader such as Paul, Tancredo, or Hunter would provide the CP with a very attractive alternative to the globalist candidates being offered by the two major parties," Baldwin says in his most recent article.

Baldwin goes onto to say that "Even a virtually unknown candidate with limited experience, but someone who understands the issues and has the backbone to do what is right, would be head and shoulders above what the two major parties are currently shoving down our throats."

Giuliani Is 'In This to Win'

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has announced that he has filed papers with the FEC to become an official candidate for President. "I'm in this to win," Giuliani said on Fox News' Hannity and Colmes.

CNN reports that "Despite being immensely popular in national polls, Giuliani faces hurdles to securing the Republican nomination state by state. His moderate stances on issues such as gun control, abortion and gay rights do not sit well with hard-core social conservatives who are a crucial voting group in the nominating contests. His two divorces could be obstacles as well.

"But conservatives also aren't entirely sold on McCain, an Arizona senator, and Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, and that could even the playing field for Giuliani. He hopes primary and caucus voters look past his liabilities and consider his record of leadership in difficult times."

Commenting

When commenting to a post, please make sure your comments are clean and without foul language.

Kubby's Immigration Plan

What would Libertarian presidential hopeful Steve Kubby do to solve the problem of illegal immigration?

The first step Kubby would take in securing the American boarder, which Congress would have to pass, is "let those who bear us no ill will to come in 'through the front door' -- to walk across the border publicly and conveniently instead of sneaking over it in the middle of the night and in the middle of the desert." Apparently Kubby thinks that any one that is not a criminal should be allowed to freely walk across the boarder without being identified but, if they are not identified how will it be known if they are peaceful or not?

The next step Kubby would take would not require the approval of Congress, it is to "re-focus the government services which address that border away from hassling peaceful immigrants and toward detecting and eliminating real threats to the United States." This is a good idea, the people that are threats should be detected and stopped from crossing over to America but, as long as it is law, every one should be checked and meet the requirements to legally enter into the U.S.

Gilmore On Abortion

Former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore is not opposed abortions. In his 2001 "State of the Commonwealth" address he said:

"When it comes to the most difficult decision a woman must make -- whether or not to have an abortion -- I believe she should be fully informed about the medical implications of that decision and have an opportunity to reflect on that information. That’s why I support legislation to require informed consent and establish a 24-hour waiting period for abortion."

Biden Enters Race With Attention

Sen. Joe Biden started his second campaign for White House this week with plenty of attention, just not the kind a newly announced candidate would want.

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man," Biden said about Illinois Senator Barak Obama.

This comment has come under fire by many people including 2004 Democratic Presidential hopeful Al Sharpton, who told Biden:

"A lot of people took it from you that because (Obama) is Harvard-trained, that people don't see someone as good and clean unless they are less connected to the struggle of the African-American community. George Allen got 'macaca' - this might be a step past that."

Biden won 2.94% in the Conservative President 2008 December poll.

Romney On His Relgion

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney said this about his Mormon faith:

"People want to see a person of faith lead the country, but they don't particularly care which band of faith that might be — as long as they share the values, which are known as being part of our American heritage, and I certainly share those values."

The Next Prez Signs Off

It is a sad for political bloggers, today the final entry was made on the Next Prez blog.

The Next Prex was started on July 14, 2005, with these words:

"Welcome to the official blog of TheNextPrez.

The purpose of this blog will be to track the 2008 U.S. Presidential race, from beginning to end, and, if things go well, subsequent presidential races.

This blog will cover all of the candidates and potential candidates from all legitimate political parties (defined as those which garnered at least 100,000 votes for President in the previous election), and the issues likely to affect the outcome of the race," and that is exactly what that blog has done.

Today, February 1, 2007, Doug Daniels the editor of the popular blog made this shocking announcement:

"I hate to abandon this effort just when things are getting the most interesting, but recent changes in my day job and some upcoming projects will prevent me from giving this blog the attention it requires, so I have decided to suspend further posting on The Next Prez. I have enjoyed writing here for the past eighteen-plus months, and greatly appreciate the time and effort invested by all of you in helping to make this an interesting site, particularly the presidential candidates who have participated. I will leave the site online as long as Blogger/Google permits it, and invite my fellow 2008 bloggers to quote any of the material here as you wish."

From one blogger to another, best of wishes in your future and thanks for all the work that was put into The Next Prez.
