Poll: Paul Would Lose to Democrat

Rasmussen Reports released two polls today matching up Ron Paul as the Republican nominee against Hillary Clinton in one and Barak Obama in another.

Poll #1 results: Clinton (D): 49%, Paul (R): 37%, undecided and other: 14%
Poll #2 results: Obama (D): 50%, Paul (R): 31%, undecided and other: 19%

National Review Endorses Romney

The conservative National Review magazine has endorsed Mitt Romney for President. "Our guiding principle has always been to select the most conservative viable candidate. In our judgment, that candidate is Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts," say the magazine editors.

They go onto say: "Some conservatives question his sincerity. It is true that he has reversed some of his positions. But we should be careful not to overstate how much he has changed. In 1994, when he tried to unseat Ted Kennedy, he ran against higher taxes and government-run health care, and for school choice, a balanced budget amendment, welfare reform, and 'tougher measures to stop illegal immigration.' He was no Rockefeller Republican even then."

CBS News Covers Fendig Campaign

Republican presidential candidate Cap Fendig, who appeared on This Is Politics last Saturday, was featured in an article on the CBS News website in late November.

"I am here to represent the 'little guy' of America," Fendig says. His daughter, Mary Ellyse Fendig, goes onto say that: "He does just hold a local office, but he does a lot of state policy and he's very involved in things that affect our county. But I feel like that's like saying, 'If the Gamecocks thought they couldn't win, they wouldn't still try.' It's a personal ambition of his."

Keyes Won't Support Giuliani

In the last Republican presidential candidate debate before the Iowa caucus on January 3 Alan Keyes said that if Rudy Giuliani becomes the nominee he will not support him.

During today's debate, only the second nationally televised debate to include Keyes and the first one in which Keyes and Giulaini shared the platform, the L.A. Times blog reports that: "Keyes pointedly remarked toward the end of today's GOP debate in Iowa that, given his commitment to human life from "the womb to the tomb," he could not back Giuliani (in case anyone was wondering)."

There has been quite a lot of speculation the Keyes will run for the Constitution Party nomination after the Republican primaries.

Gilchrist Backs Huckabee

Minuteman Project founder and 2005 American Independent (California Constitution Party) congressional candidate turned Republican Jim Gilchrist has endorsed Republican Mike Huckabee for president.

"The governor has a [illegal immigration] plan and I appreciate his plan. That's why I'm supporting him. He's one of the few who's actually brought forth a plan and gone public with it. It shows to me that he's willing to engage in the tough love necessary to fix this problem," said Gilchrist.

Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo campaigned for Gilchrist in his 2005 race and Gilchrist has previously expressed interest in seeking the 2008 presidential nomination of the Constitution Party.

Huckabee, Giuliani In Virtual Tie Nationally

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee and former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani are in a virtual tie in the most recent national poll released today from CNN/Opinion Research Corporation.

The poll finds Giuliani at 24% and Huckabee at 22%, within the 5% margin of error. Mitt Romney is at 16%, McCain 12%, Thompson 10% and Ron Paul at 6%. Duncan Hunter has just 2% of support in this poll with Tom Tancredo coming in last with 1%.

Paul Slams Door on Libertarian Party Run

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul will not be seeking the Libertarian Party's nomination despite an invitation from Libertarian National Commitee for him to do so.

A spokesman for the Paul campaign said that: "Ron has no intention to run third party whatsoever."

LNC Supports Ron Paul Candidacy

The Libertarian National Committee voted unanimously this weekend to welcome Ron Paul to seek their nomination if he loses the Republican nomination.

The resulation stated that: "In the event that Republican primary voters select a candidate other than Congressman Paul in February of 2008, the Libertarian National Committee invites Congressman Ron Paul to seek the presidential nomination of the Libertarian Party to be decided in Denver, Colorado during the Memorial Day weekend of 2008."

Tancredo Boycotts Spanish-language Debate

Republican presidential candidate Rep. Tom Tancredo is boycotting today's debate hosted by Univison that will be presented in the Spanish language.

Tancredo said in a press release Friday that: "It is the law that to become a naturalized citizen of this country you must have knowledge and understanding of English, including a basic ability to read, write, and speak the language. So what may I ask are our presidential candidates doing participating in a Spanish speaking debate?"

Republican National Hispanic Assembly chairman Danny Vargas said that Tancredo is missing a chance to reach out to voters saying that: "You've got third generation Americans who maybe just prefer watching the programing on that particular channel. It's the fifth largest network (in terms of viewers) in the country."

Romney Would 'Serve No One Religion'

Addressing his Mormon faith in a speech Thursday night Republican Mitt Romney said that as President he would "serve no one religion, no one group, no one cause. A president must serve only the common cause of the people of the United States."

He wento onto say: "It is important to recognize that, while differences in theology exist between the churches in America, we share a common creed of moral convictions."

Huckabee Defends Role in Parole of Convicted Rapist Who Went on to Kill

Mike Huckabee is now under fire as to his role in the parole of a rapist that went on to kill.

Fox News reports that: "Huckabee acknowledged that shortly after becoming governor in 1996 he did visit the parole board — all appointees of his predecessors, Bill Clinton and Jim Guy Tucker — so he could offer his views on crime and parole in general, and the Dumond case came up during that meeting."

Huckabee New Front Runner

Mike Huckabee is currently leading the Republican field according to a new poll released today from Rasmussen Reports.

Huckabee is on top with 20% with Giuliani hitting an all time low of 17%. McCain and Romney are at 13%, Fred Thompson 10% and Ron Paul has 7%.

NH Union Leader Endorses McCain

The conservative New Hampshire Union Leader newspaper has endorsed Sen. John McCain for the Republican presidential nomination.

"We don't agree with him on every issue. We disagree with him strongly on campaign finance reform. What is most compelling about McCain, however, is that his record, his character, and his courage show him to be the most trustworthy, competent, and conservative of all those seeking the nomination." says the Leader.

The endorsement article goes onto say that "John McCain is the man to lead America."

Three Candidates to Speak at Conservative Summit Monday

The first part of the 2007 Online Conservative Summit will be on Monday, December 3, starting at 6:00 PM (ET). Wayne Allyn Root (L), Steve Adams (I) and Daniel Gilbert (R) will be presenting their campaigns with speeches up to ten minuetes long. No questions will be asked.

Paul, Giuliani Tied In SC

Anti-war Republican Ron Paul is tied with pro-war Rudy Giuliani in South Carolina. Both have 6%.

Leading the pack in SC is Mitt Romney who has 17% following behind is Fred Thompson who has 15% and Mike Huckabee at 13%. John McCain also comes ahead of Giuliani and Paul with his 11%. Duncan Hunter has just a 1% in this poll.

Adams, Paul Tie In Web Poll

Independent Steve Adams and Republican Ron Paul tied for first place in the most recent online poll here on Conservative President 2008. Each received 46% of the vote with Democrat Joe Biden falling far behind with just 9%.

There were a total of 46 votes cast.

Imperato Leads Libertarians in Website Visits

Daniel Imperato leads all other Libertarian presidential candidates in campaign websites visits by a large margin. According to Alexa.com, Imperato2008.com has been visited more times than all other LP candidates as well Republican Tom Tancredo's campaign site and the official website of the Constitution Party.

Lesser known Libertarian candidate Art Link's website has had more traffic than Christine Smith's and Bob Jackson's. The website of George Phillies, who has been mentioned as a front runner for the nomination, comes up as "no data."

Huckabee Ahead in Iowa

The most recent Rasmussen Reports poll of Iowa Republicans finds Mike Huckabee leading the field of GOP candidates in the first in the nation caucus state.

Huckabee is at 28%, edging out Mitt Romney who came in with 25%.

Adams' Website Most Visited Among Conservative Independents

Indpendent presidential candidate Steve Adams' website has been visted more than any other consevrative indpendent candidate. According to Alexa.com, Adams's site has been visied more than the sites of: John Bootie, Ruth White and Pete Grasso.

Presidentadams.com has also had more visits than the sites of Republican long shots Keith Sprankle, Daniel Gilbert and Richard Michael Smith and Libertarians Christine Smith and Bob Jackson.

Pro Choice Group to Target Romney

The pro choice group Republican Majority for Choice will start running ads in Iowa and New Hampshire targeting Mitt Romney as a flip flopper on abortion. Romney sought and received the endorsement of the group when he ran for governor in 2002.

"He's an opportunist. It's important for voters to know who they are voting for," says Jennifer Blei Stockman who is the co-chair of the Republican Majority for Choice. "If we weren't so betrayed by the dishonesty of Mitt Romney's actions, we would not be running ads."

A Romney spokesperson said that: "Governor Romney will not back down from his pro-life position, despite this group's attempts to weaken the party platform and promote Mayor Giuliani's pro-choice candidacy."

McCain: Not everyone here illegally should be deported

Republican presidential candidate John McCain does not believe that all illegals in America should be deported.

"If you're prepared to send an 80-year-old grandmother who's been here 70 years back to some country, then, frankly you're not quite as compassionate as maybe I am," said McCain at a campaign stop in South Carolina.

Fineman: GOP Must Unite Members

Howard Fineman of MSNBC says that if the Republicans can't unite libertarians, evangelicals and hawks in 2008 they will lose the presidential election.

Fineman says: Mike Huckabee "is fast becoming the semi-official candidate of the evangelicals," Ron Paul is the "baptized hero" among libertarians, and for the hawks "Giuliani is the Man, going George W. Bush and Dick Cheney one better in confrontational, I-love-Armageddon fervor."

"The nomination is very much worth having. But to grab it, someone is going to have to step forward on the stage to play Ronald Reagan with a script by Karl Rove," he ads.

Kucinich Would Like Ron Paul VP

Long shot liberal Democratic candidate Dennis Kucinich says that Ron Paul would be a good choice for Vice President.

The Cleavland Plain Dealer reports:

"I'm thinking about Ron Paul" as a running mate, Kucinich told a crowd of about 70 supporters at a house party here, one of numerous stops throughout New Hampshire over the Thanksgiving weekend. A Kucinich-Paul administration could bring people together "to balance the energies in this country," Kucinich said.

Paul communications director Jesse Benton said: "They have worked, and will continue to work, together on ending the war and protecting civil liberties. However, Ron wants to substantially cut the size and scope of the federal government. There are too many differences on issues such as taxes and spending to think a joint ticket would be possible."

Paul Gets Support of Nevada Prostotute Business

It looks like Ron Paul could face some trouble in his already long shot bid for President, which has been building some momentum.

Dennis Hof, a Nevada brothel owner, is collecting funds for Congressman Paul at Moonlite BunnyRanch near Carson City. "I'll get all the (working girls) together, and we can raise him some money. I'll put up a collection box outside the door. They can drop in $1, $5 contributions," he said.

Paul spokesman Jeff Greenspan had this to say: "On a personal basis, he [Paul] doesn't condone those things. At the same time, from his campaign perspective, it's not the role of federal government and it's not in the constitution for federal government to regulate these things. The Nevada votrs and Legislature have decided it is legal activity in this state."

Dobbs, Barr Not Running

Neither Lou Dobbs (I) or Bob Barr (L) will be making runs for the White House as previously rumored.

"Mr. Barr has no intention of running for president. No exploratory committee, nothing," says Derek Barr who is the spokesman for Barr's Liberty Strategies as well as his son.

And Dobbs told the New York Times: "I have no interest in running, and I've said that throughout."

Poll: Paul Gets 8% as Libertarian

A poll realised by Rasmussen Reports earlier this week finds Ron Paul getting 8% of the vote as the Libertarian nominee going up against Hillary Clinton, Rudy Giuliani and Ralph Nader.

Barr May Get in Race

Austine Cassidy of Third Party Watch reports that a reliable source has told him that former congressman Bob Barr may run for the Libertarian nomination for President. "Though I don’t have any concrete details as of yet, the rumor is that former Congressman Bob Barr is now openly considering a Presidential bid on the Libertarian ticket," says Cassidy.

Barr served in Congress from 1995-2003 as a Republican and since then has joined the Libertarian Party and since December of last year has served as its the Southeast Region representative.

Dobbs Considering Candidacy

Lou Dobbs of CNN has confirmed that he is considering making an independent run for President.

MSNBC reports:

John Fund, a columnist for The Wall Street Journal, explored the possibility in a commentary posted yesterday on the Journal's website. ‘Friends of Mr. Dobbs say he is seriously contemplating a race for the first time, although it's still unlikely,’ Fund reported. Those friends play out a scenario under which New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg enters the race as an independent, then Dobbs jumps in as a fourth-party candidate.”

Adams: 'Guaranteed Not To Spoil '

Conservative indpenent presidential candidate Steve Adams says in his most recent blog article that he and his running mate Bob Hargis are "guaranteed not to spoil."

Adams addresses the question: "I like you, but how can I vote for you when you might just be a spoiler?"

His answer is: "Yes, there is risk in casting your vote for us. There is more risk in NOT casting your vote for us. How many more years of politics as usual can we survive? What will happen to us - our economy, our security & safety, the laws and taxes that affect us every day – if we allow those that created the problems to continue running the show regardless of the label they wear?"

Huckabee Gets Backing of Pro Life Leader

Tom Glessner, who is the head of the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates, has announced that he is supporting Mike Huckabee for President.

Glessner said:

"Forty-nine million abortions since 1973 is a moral blight upon our land that must be corrected and 1.2 million abortions a year continues to break the very heart and soul of this nation. Our next president must be a person who believes this within the foundations of his soul. And we need a president who has the moral convictions and commitment to work to end the cultural nightmare of abortion. I am convinced that Governor Huckabee is that person."

Clymer Reacts to Robertson's Giuliani Endorsement

“Pat Robertson has clearly sold out. By endorsing Giuliani, Robertson asks his followers to rally around a man who is the standard-bearer for all that is repugnant to them," says Constitution Party Chairman Jim Clymer.

He goes onto say: “Americans are abandoning the wreckage of both parties in droves. The Constitution Party has emerged as the party those voters are counting on to provide a choice in ‘08”

McKinney Ends Presidential Campaign, Running for US Rep

Ray McKinney has ended his long shot bid for the Republican presidential nomination to run for Congress in Georgeia's 12th district.

"Like most novice candidates who start at the top, he found it difficult to be taken seriously," says Larry Peterson of the Savannah Morning News.

On his campaign site, which is currently under construction, McKinney is quoted as saying: "We are in a point and time where every vote matters! We cannot lose...not today...not now. The cost is too high."

McKinney placed ahead of John McCain and Sam Brownback in the Texas Straw Poll on September 1 and also made two appearances on This Is Politics including one debate.

Six candidates are set to present their campaigns during the 2007 Conservative Candidate Online Summit the first week of December.

Steve Adams (I), Dan Gilbert (R) and Wayne Allyn Root (L) will be speaking during the first part on December 3 at 6:00 PM (ET) and Cap Fendig (R), George Phillies (L) and John Bootie (I) are set to take part during the second part on December 8 at 8:00 PM (ET).

Thompson Gets Pro Life Endorsement

Today Fred Thompson received the endorsement of the National Right to Life Committee.

A press release from the NRLC says:
"Fred Thompson has had a strong, consistent pro-life record throughout his political career. Thompson opposes abortion and believes the 1973 abortion on demand Supreme Court decision was wrongly decided and must be reversed. During his eight years in the United States Senate, he always opposed using tax dollars to promote or pay for abortion and supported the many pro-life measures such as parental notice and consent."

Political blogger Daniel Myers commented on the NRLC's endorsement on his blog today saying: "The National Right to Life organization has chosen to skip pass Pro-Life Candidate Mike Huckabee and endorse someone who does not support a constitutional ban against Abortion."

Huckabee Sees Space to Win

Second tier GOP candidate Mike Huckabee is hopeful he will win his party's nomination.

The former Arkansas governor was on Face the Nation on Sunday and had this to say:
"These are folks who are ready to sign up and who are ready to walk through eight feet of snow to get to the polls," Huckabee said of Iowa voters. He went onto say: "It's a real form of flattery when you start getting attacked, because no hunter points his gun at a dead carcass," referring to a recent attack by Fred Thompson.

Baldwin: 'Christians need to beware of Mike Huckabee'

"...Is Mike Huckabee someone Christian conservatives should be supporting?" Possible 2008 Constitution Party presidential candidate Rev. Chuck Baldwin asks in his latest column, published on Alan Keyes' Renew America website.

Baldwin points several quotes among them is this one from President of the Eagle Forum Phyllis Schlafly: "He destroyed the conservative movement in Arkansas, and left the Republican Party a shambles. Yet some of the same evangelicals who sold us on George W. Bush as a 'compassionate conservative' are now trying to sell us on Mike Huckabee."

The 2004 CP Vice Presidential candidate goes onto attack Huckabee's illegal immigration with this quote from Jim Boulet, Jr., executive director of English First: "Rudy Giuliani spent years defending the right of New York City to remain a sanctuary for illegal aliens. Yet Giuliani was a veritable Lou Dobbs Jr. on illegal immigration in comparison to Mike Huckabee."

"Christians need to beware of Mike Huckabee. He is not a conservative. Even worse, he is not a constitutionalist. He is an opportunist, however. This is demonstrated by the fact that many of his supporters are openly posturing (with Huckabee's consent, obviously) for an opportunity to run Huckabee as a potential Vice Presidential candidate with either Giuliani or Romney at the top of the ticket," Baldwin says.

McCain and Giuliani Get Major Endorsements

Today two Republican presidential candidates received big name endorsements.

Former 2008 presidential candidate Sen. Sam Brownback endorsed Sen. John McCain, "If you want a guy to change Washington, John McCain's the guy to do it. He has been in Washington, but he is not of Washington," said Brownback. McCain commented on the Kansas senator's endorsement saying: "I think it matters when one of the most respected members of the United States Senate, and in the pro-life family values community lends his support to my candidacy. I think it has significant impact."

And there is one Christian leader that made it clear today that he does not agree with James Dobsons' idea of running a third party candidate if Giuliani gets the nomination. Pat Robertson, co-host of the 700 Club, endorsed Rudy Giuliani. "It is my pleasure to announce my support for America's Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, a proven leader who is not afraid of what lies ahead and who will cast a hopeful vision for all Americans," Robertson said.

Robertson, who ran for 1988 GOP presidential nomination, went onto say: "Rudy Giuliani took a city that was in decline and considered ungovernable and reduced its violent crime, revitalized its core, dramatically lowered its taxes, cut through a welter of bureaucratic regulations, and did so in the spirit of bipartisanship which is so urgently needed in Washington today." He said nothing of the fact the he and Giuliani disagree on social issues.

John McCain had this to say about Robertson's choice for President: "Every once in a while, I'm left speechless. This is one of those times."

Thompson: No Ban on Abortion

GOP candidate Fred Thompson said yesterday on Meet the Press that: "I think people ought to be free at state and local levels to make decisions that even Fred Thompson disagrees with," referring to the issue of abortion.

Cox No Longer A Candidate

I just found out that John Cox is no longer a presidential candidate. Looking at the list on Wikipedia of candidates to be included in the debates I saw that Cox quit the race on October 27.

He said before that he would stay in the race until after the South Carolina primary, he has already paid the $25,000 or $35,000 (depending when he filed) to be on their ballot.

There is no mention of this on Cox's campaign website.

NAIP Presidential Candidate Debate, November 6

The first ever New American Party presidential candidate debate will take place on November 6, at 6:00 PM (ET). This Is Politics radio will host the debate.

Keyes/Tancredo CP Ticket?

Today Republican presidential candidate and Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo announced that he will not seek re-election to his Congressional seat.

"The issue now has a life of its own and it doesn't need one particular person to champion it," Tancredo said referring to the illegal immigration issue. He went onto say: "I feel my job, my task, has been completed. And I am very much at peace with the idea that if I'm not elected president then I won't be running."

And last Thursday Alan Keyes, another Republican candidate, met with the Constitution Party National Executive Committee.

I believe that it is very possible that these two long shot GOP candidates could become the 2008 Constitution Party presidential ticket.

USA Daily: Paul May Become Front Runner

USA Daily reports that Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul "may quickly go from cellar dweller to Republican front runner after the New Hampshire primary."

The article says that there are signs appearing in private resident homes in New Hampshire which means that its not the campaigns putting the signs up, its the people who live in the homes and that his message is catching on with primary voters.

Huckabee Passes Romney

Mike Huckabee has passed Mitt Romney in support according the most recent Rasmussen Research Poll released on Friday.

The poll has Huckabee at 12%, just ahead of Romney who is at 11%. Giuliani leads the poll with 20% followed by Thompson at 19% and McCain at 14%.

"What we're seeing is the power of message over money and mechanics. Our supporters are enthusiastic because they believe in my conservative message," Huckabee said.

It is evident that no one candidate has the GOP nomination locked up.

Baldwin: 'Bob Jones Dances With The Devil'

Chuck Baldwin, 2004 Constitution Party vice presidential candidate and possible '08 presidential candidate, says that Bob Jones III, chancellor and former president of Bob Jones University, has chosen to "dance with the devil" because of his endorsement of Mitt Romney for President.

"Bob Jones’ endorsement of the former Massachusetts governor illustrates just how low the Religious Right will go in compromising bedrock principle for the sake of political expediency. Jones says he is supporting Romney so as to help defeat Rudy Giuliani. I very much want to see what Jones will do if and when Giuliani gets the Republican nomination. I would anticipate that he will continue to follow his current modus operandi and support Giuliani, because he would then say that Giuliani is the 'lesser of two evils,'" Baldwin says.

He goes onto say: "Why do I say that? Because Jones is already demonstrating that he will support one liberal over another liberal. Mitt Romney is not a conservative--not by any measure of the word. And I am confident that Bob Jones knows it."

Since Bob Jones III's endorsement of Romney, Bob Jones University has released a statement saying that the university does not endorse any candidate for the office of President.

Hargis Named As Adams' VP Running Mate

Today Independent presidential candidate Steve Adams announced that Bob Hargis, who had been running as an Independent presidential candidate himself, is his Vice Presidential running mate.

"Bob and I share many values and stances on the issues. Most importantly we know that we can make a positive change in this country by bringing unity and solutions to our government rather than partisan politics. Bob will not be a traditional Vice President who is never heard from. Rather he will be a valued partner in critical decision making and part of the larger team of experts we will surround ourselves with in Washington," Adams says on his website.

Brownback May Back Giuliani!

Former 2008 Republican presidential candidate Sen. Sam Brownback, who is stauchly pro life and anti gay rights, may endorse Rudy Giuliani. The two were set to meet today. "I’m going to meet with him and I’m going to talk to him and hear what he is specifically saying now because he’s changed on a number of the abortion issues ... I haven’t decided who or if and I haven’t decided when [I will endorse someone]," Politics1 reports Brownback as saying.

This comes from the same person who just last week predicted that Rudy would not get the nomination because he was pro choice. The president of the Iowa Right to Life, Kim Lehman, said that it would be "hypocritical" of Brownback to endorse Giuliani.

In an online interview with CBS, Republican presidential candidate Duncan Hunter was asked if the Republican candidate ends up being a social moderate, should conservatives consider a third party.

His response was: "Well, first, I challenge the premise of your question. Because more than two-thirds of the Republican electorate is pro-life. So you’re asking me to presume that the Republican Party, which is dominated by people who are pro-life, would nominate somebody who is not pro-life. I don’t think that happens."

Sprankle: Fox News Pitting Republicans Against Each Other

Long shot Republican presidential candidate Keith Sprankle said in a press realease that during last night's Republican debate that Fox News, which hosted debate, attempted to "pit" the candidates against each other.

Sprankle, who was not invited to the event, said: "The very first set of questions was designed and directed to pit one republican candidate against another directly over personal issues and stands not relevant to the issues of today," Sprankle said.

He goes onto say that: "Tying up the main candidates for over 20 minutes of the 90 minute debate, Fox news sought to invoke media sound bites for news debate rather than allowing a meaningful debate on the issues which real Americans are concerned and worried about."

Keyes On the FRC Values Voters Summit

The Alan Keyes campaign has a released an article published on their website about this past weekend's FRC Values Voters Summit, which Keyes was not invited to attend.

The letter targest the Family Reasearch Council saying: "Now, you may ask, "Didn't they have to give pro-abortion candidates a platform, in the interest of fairness and balance?" No, they did not. One of the foundational principles of our republic is the right of free association. Nothing in the law requires that an organization surrender this freedom."

Keyes also goes after the front runners: Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, John McCain and Mitt Romney saying that: "All of these candidates have either an outright pro-abortion position or a Stephen A. Douglas-like position that puts states' rights ahead of the God-given — and therefore unalienable — rights to life and liberty."

Mitt Romney won today's straw poll at the Values Voters' Summit with 1,595 votes, just 30 votes more than Mike Huckabee's 1,565.

Ron Paul came in third with 865 votes followed by Fred Thompson who recieved 564 votes. Sam Brownback, who ended his campaign yesterday, had 297 votes bringing him ahead of Duncan Hunter at 140 and Tom Tancredo at 133.

However, Rudy Giuliani did not finish last. The former New York City mayor came ahead of John McCain with 107 votes compared to McCain's 81.

Brownback Out of Race

Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KA) has ended his campaign for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination. Brownback, a strong social conservative, spoke at the Values Voter Summit earlier today and at approximately 3:45, CST, he ended his campaign with a speech in Kansas.

The Senator does not believe that Rudy Giuliani will become the nominee since he is not pro life. Brownback has also said he will not seek re-election in 2012 and there are rumors he may run for governor in the 2010 elections.

Thompson: We Can't Win by Becoming More Like Democrats

"Some people think, seemingly, that we need to defeat the Democrats next year by becoming more like them," former Tennessee Senator and 2008 Republican presidential candidate said at a meeting of the New York Conservative Party. He went onto say: "It's not time for philosophical flexibility in terms of our principles. That is a sure-fire way of making sure we won't win."

Although I do not agree with Thompson on every issue he is right here. The Republicans will have a hard time winning with a candidate like Rudy Giulaini. The Republicans have a better shot at winning with a social conservative than winning with a candidate that has been backed by the Liberal Party of New York.

Cox Only Republican to Speak At Sisters on Target Dinner

Republican presidential John Cox was the only Republican to address the Sisters on Target Dinner this past Saturday. Democrats Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama and Joe Biden also spoke at the event.

The Des Moines Register reports that:

He ran into trouble when he gave his reason for running for president: "Because for 20 years we've had nothing but Bushes and Clintons in the White House. With all due respect to Senator Clinton, she's a lovely lady, but I think in a country of 300 million people we ought to be able to do something better than Bushes and Clintons."

"Yeah, he messed up. Not going to vote for him," said Artelia Hoffman, a retired teacher aide from Des Moines. "He might as well sit down."

Obama said nearly the same thing minutes later.

"There are a lot of good candidates in this race, and I admire them all, but the fact is that we've been hearing the same thing from Republicans and Democrats for the last 30 years," he said. "The question is not who can say the right words but who will have the judgment and courage to act on those words, even when it's inconvenient."

He got a roaring standing ovation.

Brownback Looks for Support From Republican Jews

Republican presidential candidate Sam Brownback called on Jewish Republicans to support his candidacy and to "rebuild the family."

"We've got to rebuild our family culture. The place to raise a child is with a mom and a dad," Brownback said at the Republican Jewish Coalition presidential forum today.

Tommy Thompson Endorses Giuliani

Former 2008 Republican presidential candidate Tommy Thompson has endorsed Rudy Giuliani.

"I want a candidate that's going to be able to stand up and be able to win the Republican primary and take on Hillary Clinton and win," Thompson said in South Carolina with Giuliani standing with him.

Thompson went onto say that: "If in fact I have to wait around for the perfect candidate — I thought it was me and I lost — I'm going to have to wait another five years," referring to the two's differences on issues like abortion.

Coulter Goes After Huckabee and Thompson

Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee are the targets of conservative columnest and author Ann Coulter's most recent editoral.

Coulter says that: "Conservatives unhappy with our Republican presidential candidates seem to be drifting aimlessly toward Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee in the misguided belief that these candidates are more conservative than Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney. This is like breaking up with Bobby Brown so you can date Phil Spector."

She goes onto attack Huckabee's position on illegal immigration, among other things, saying that: "Huckabee makes George Bush sound like Tom Tancredo."

Coulter is also critical of Thompson voting against impeaching Presidential Bill Clinton.

Politics1 reports today that: "The Paul and Tancredo comments -- probably intentionally -- kicked the doors wide open to Paul seeking the Libertarian nomination and Tancredo seeking the Constitution nomination for President in the general election."

I believe that if Paul were to become the Libertarian nominee that the Constitution Party leadership would push for an endorsement of him on that ticket. Earlier in the year Constitution Party chairman Jim Clymer said that if Paul some how managed to win the Republican nomination that the CP convention delegates would most likely endorse him and I would expect the same would hold true if Paul were the Libertarian candidate. However, the problem the CPers may have is if they would be willing to endorse the Libertarian vice presidential nominee.

Brownback, Biden Set to Campaign Together

Two presidential candidates are set to campaign together latter this week in Iowa, one a Republican and the other a Democrat.

Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KA) and Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) will be promoting their joint decentralization plan for Iraq, the Senate passed a non-binding resolution last month in favor of the bill.

"Joe and I might be running for the nomination of two different parties, but we agree on one thing: the American people want progress in Iraq and this represents a viable way forward to stability and success," says Sen. Brownback.

"Partisan politics must not come in the way of finding a solution to the war in Iraq. The overwhelming majority of Americans want us to get our troops out of Iraq as quickly as possible without leaving chaos behind," said Sen. Biden.

Both Biden and Brownback are behind in the polls.

Hunter A Qualified Conservative

Many are overlooking California Congressman Duncan Hunter for the Republican presidential nomination, which is really too bad because he is a well qualified conservative.

Hunter has served in the House of Representatives since 1981 and has always been a conservative. The American Conservative Union even gave him a 92% life time rating.

As a Vietnam War veteran and former Chairman of the Armed Service Committee he is a knowledgeable candidate on National Security.

Hunter is also a strong supporter of the right to life for everyone. He supports a constitutional amendment to define "person hood" as beginning at conception and has been given a 100% rating from National Right to Life.

Through his efforts a fence was constructed along the U.S.-Mexico boarder in San Diego, which resulted in a 90% decrease of illegal immigration in that area. He is also opposed to amnesty for the current illegal immigrants in America. He was in opposition to the Kennedy-McCain amnesty bill that failed to pass earlier this year.

A believer that marriage is between one man and one woman, Rep. Hunter supports a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriages.

Hunter is also a strong supporter of Israel, missile defense and the 2nd amendment. He received an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association.

Giuliani: When it comes to picking who will be on the Supreme Court "Abortion is not a litmus test."

The Republicans for Choice website reports Rudy Giuliani saying that when it comes to picking who will be on the Supreme Court "Abortion is not a litmus test." The former NYC mayor goes onto to say: "No particular case is a litmus test. That's not the way to appoint Supreme Court justices or any judge."

The website also says:

He [Giuliani] also said he would not rule out choosing a judge known to be an opponent of abortion rights if he "thought that on 20 other issues" the judge "would be terrific."

Tancredo Wants Federal Ban of Same Sex Marriage

Republican presidential candidate Rep. Tom Tancredo announced in Iowa today that he is in favor of Federal ban on same sex marriages.

The Des Moines Register reported:

Tancredo held a press conference on the steps of the Iowa State Capitol building to denounce a decision made by Polk County District Judge Robert Hanson, who ruled in August that Iowa's gay-marriage ban is unconstitutional.

The Colorado congressman argued a federal ban is necessary to ensure "activist judges" will not make similar rulings that pave the way for legal recognition of relationships based on bigamy, polygamy and incest.

Keyes Not Welcome At CNBC Debate

2008 Republican presidential candidate Alan Keyes was excluded from today's CNBC/MSNBC debate in Michigan.

"I think it is shameful that someone with Dr. Alan Keyes' experience in government and credentials in the conservative movement is being kept out of the debate. Voters in Michigan and across the country deserve to hear what this man has to say about where this country is and where it's going. He brings a principled, moral perspective to this race that nobody else brings," Genesee County Republican Party Board member Judy Zabik said.

The reason given for Keyes exclusion from the debate is that he wasn't on the invitation list made on September 11, before he announced his candidacy.

Dobson Ready to Bolt GOP

Christian leader Dr. James Dobson is ready and willing to bolt the GOP and support a third party candidate if the party puts forth a pro choice candidate.

World Net Daily reported that: "Some of the top leaders in Christian pro-family activism – including James Dobson of Focus on the Family – met in Salt Lake City yesterday to plot a strategy if Rudy Giuliani or another supporter of legalized abortion is nominated by the Republican Party as its presidential candidate."

Myers: Look for Hunter, Keyes and Brownback to Drop Out

Political blogger Daniel Myers says in a new article on his website that he thinks that Alan Keyes, Duncan Hunter and Sam Brownback will drop out of the race either before or right after the Iowa Caucus in January.

Myers says: "Whoever is leading 2-3 days before the Caucus is possibly going to be the winner. Kerry was loosing by 11 points in Iowa until four days before the Caucus he trailed by 2, then three days before he was tied, then came the actual results in which he beat Howard Dean by what I believe if memory is correct 16 points."

He thinks that Mike Huckabee will do well in Iowa as well as Mitt Romney and he doesn't expect Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and possibly Fred Thompson to be too focused on this first caucus state.

CBS News: Paul Getting Harder to Ignore

In an article by Brian Montopoli on the CBS News website he says that: "...the campaign of Ron Paul, a libertarian Republican with a small but passionate fan base, is hinting that he's going to come in at over $3 million for the quarter – a number that makes him harder for the other candidates, and the press corps, to ignore."

Paul ended up raising around $5 million dollars for the third quarter, about the same as Sen. John McCain.

Thompson: Leave Gay Marriage to the States

The Associated Press Reports:

Thompson favors a constitutional amendment that bars judges from legalizing gay marriage, but also leaves open the door for state legislatures to approve the practice. He said social and religious conservatives who would prefer an amendment that also bars legislatures from legalizing gay marriage can live with his view.

McCain Prefers to Have a Christian President

Over the weekend Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain was asked during an interview with the religious website Beliefnet if a Muslim would be a good choice for president.

McCain responded by saying: "I just have to say in all candor that since this nation was founded primarily on Christian principles ... personally, I prefer someone who I know who has a solid grounding in my faith. But that doesn't mean that I'm sure that someone who is Muslim would not make a good president." He went onto say: "I would vote for a Muslim if he or she was the candidate best able to lead the country and defend our political values."

When asked if Mitt Romney's Mormon religion should be a determing factor in choosing the next president McCain said: "I think that Governor Romney's religion should not, absolutely not, be a disqualifying factor when people consider his candidacy for president of the United States."

Paul Campaign Hopeful For Cross Over Votes in NH

Rand Paul, son of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, is hopeful for cross over voters in the New Hampshire primary: "We definitely have Democrats that are crossing over, Libertarians crossing over, Independents crossing over. And I think the people that come out are definitely gonna vote," he said at a campaign rally in Manchester that drew a crowd of 800.
