Cox Only Republican to Speak At Sisters on Target Dinner

Republican presidential John Cox was the only Republican to address the Sisters on Target Dinner this past Saturday. Democrats Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama and Joe Biden also spoke at the event.

The Des Moines Register reports that:

He ran into trouble when he gave his reason for running for president: "Because for 20 years we've had nothing but Bushes and Clintons in the White House. With all due respect to Senator Clinton, she's a lovely lady, but I think in a country of 300 million people we ought to be able to do something better than Bushes and Clintons."

"Yeah, he messed up. Not going to vote for him," said Artelia Hoffman, a retired teacher aide from Des Moines. "He might as well sit down."

Obama said nearly the same thing minutes later.

"There are a lot of good candidates in this race, and I admire them all, but the fact is that we've been hearing the same thing from Republicans and Democrats for the last 30 years," he said. "The question is not who can say the right words but who will have the judgment and courage to act on those words, even when it's inconvenient."

He got a roaring standing ovation.

Brownback Looks for Support From Republican Jews

Republican presidential candidate Sam Brownback called on Jewish Republicans to support his candidacy and to "rebuild the family."

"We've got to rebuild our family culture. The place to raise a child is with a mom and a dad," Brownback said at the Republican Jewish Coalition presidential forum today.

Tommy Thompson Endorses Giuliani

Former 2008 Republican presidential candidate Tommy Thompson has endorsed Rudy Giuliani.

"I want a candidate that's going to be able to stand up and be able to win the Republican primary and take on Hillary Clinton and win," Thompson said in South Carolina with Giuliani standing with him.

Thompson went onto say that: "If in fact I have to wait around for the perfect candidate — I thought it was me and I lost — I'm going to have to wait another five years," referring to the two's differences on issues like abortion.

Coulter Goes After Huckabee and Thompson

Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee are the targets of conservative columnest and author Ann Coulter's most recent editoral.

Coulter says that: "Conservatives unhappy with our Republican presidential candidates seem to be drifting aimlessly toward Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee in the misguided belief that these candidates are more conservative than Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney. This is like breaking up with Bobby Brown so you can date Phil Spector."

She goes onto attack Huckabee's position on illegal immigration, among other things, saying that: "Huckabee makes George Bush sound like Tom Tancredo."

Coulter is also critical of Thompson voting against impeaching Presidential Bill Clinton.

Politics1: Tancredo, Paul Both Likely to Go Third Party

Politics1 reports today that: "The Paul and Tancredo comments -- probably intentionally -- kicked the doors wide open to Paul seeking the Libertarian nomination and Tancredo seeking the Constitution nomination for President in the general election."

I believe that if Paul were to become the Libertarian nominee that the Constitution Party leadership would push for an endorsement of him on that ticket. Earlier in the year Constitution Party chairman Jim Clymer said that if Paul some how managed to win the Republican nomination that the CP convention delegates would most likely endorse him and I would expect the same would hold true if Paul were the Libertarian candidate. However, the problem the CPers may have is if they would be willing to endorse the Libertarian vice presidential nominee.

Brownback, Biden Set to Campaign Together

Two presidential candidates are set to campaign together latter this week in Iowa, one a Republican and the other a Democrat.

Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KA) and Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) will be promoting their joint decentralization plan for Iraq, the Senate passed a non-binding resolution last month in favor of the bill.

"Joe and I might be running for the nomination of two different parties, but we agree on one thing: the American people want progress in Iraq and this represents a viable way forward to stability and success," says Sen. Brownback.

"Partisan politics must not come in the way of finding a solution to the war in Iraq. The overwhelming majority of Americans want us to get our troops out of Iraq as quickly as possible without leaving chaos behind," said Sen. Biden.

Both Biden and Brownback are behind in the polls.

Hunter A Qualified Conservative

Many are overlooking California Congressman Duncan Hunter for the Republican presidential nomination, which is really too bad because he is a well qualified conservative.

Hunter has served in the House of Representatives since 1981 and has always been a conservative. The American Conservative Union even gave him a 92% life time rating.

As a Vietnam War veteran and former Chairman of the Armed Service Committee he is a knowledgeable candidate on National Security.

Hunter is also a strong supporter of the right to life for everyone. He supports a constitutional amendment to define "person hood" as beginning at conception and has been given a 100% rating from National Right to Life.

Through his efforts a fence was constructed along the U.S.-Mexico boarder in San Diego, which resulted in a 90% decrease of illegal immigration in that area. He is also opposed to amnesty for the current illegal immigrants in America. He was in opposition to the Kennedy-McCain amnesty bill that failed to pass earlier this year.

A believer that marriage is between one man and one woman, Rep. Hunter supports a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriages.

Hunter is also a strong supporter of Israel, missile defense and the 2nd amendment. He received an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association.

Giuliani: When it comes to picking who will be on the Supreme Court "Abortion is not a litmus test."

The Republicans for Choice website reports Rudy Giuliani saying that when it comes to picking who will be on the Supreme Court "Abortion is not a litmus test." The former NYC mayor goes onto to say: "No particular case is a litmus test. That's not the way to appoint Supreme Court justices or any judge."

The website also says:

He [Giuliani] also said he would not rule out choosing a judge known to be an opponent of abortion rights if he "thought that on 20 other issues" the judge "would be terrific."

Tancredo Wants Federal Ban of Same Sex Marriage

Republican presidential candidate Rep. Tom Tancredo announced in Iowa today that he is in favor of Federal ban on same sex marriages.

The Des Moines Register reported:

Tancredo held a press conference on the steps of the Iowa State Capitol building to denounce a decision made by Polk County District Judge Robert Hanson, who ruled in August that Iowa's gay-marriage ban is unconstitutional.

The Colorado congressman argued a federal ban is necessary to ensure "activist judges" will not make similar rulings that pave the way for legal recognition of relationships based on bigamy, polygamy and incest.

Keyes Not Welcome At CNBC Debate

2008 Republican presidential candidate Alan Keyes was excluded from today's CNBC/MSNBC debate in Michigan.

"I think it is shameful that someone with Dr. Alan Keyes' experience in government and credentials in the conservative movement is being kept out of the debate. Voters in Michigan and across the country deserve to hear what this man has to say about where this country is and where it's going. He brings a principled, moral perspective to this race that nobody else brings," Genesee County Republican Party Board member Judy Zabik said.

The reason given for Keyes exclusion from the debate is that he wasn't on the invitation list made on September 11, before he announced his candidacy.

Dobson Ready to Bolt GOP

Christian leader Dr. James Dobson is ready and willing to bolt the GOP and support a third party candidate if the party puts forth a pro choice candidate.

World Net Daily reported that: "Some of the top leaders in Christian pro-family activism – including James Dobson of Focus on the Family – met in Salt Lake City yesterday to plot a strategy if Rudy Giuliani or another supporter of legalized abortion is nominated by the Republican Party as its presidential candidate."

Myers: Look for Hunter, Keyes and Brownback to Drop Out

Political blogger Daniel Myers says in a new article on his website that he thinks that Alan Keyes, Duncan Hunter and Sam Brownback will drop out of the race either before or right after the Iowa Caucus in January.

Myers says: "Whoever is leading 2-3 days before the Caucus is possibly going to be the winner. Kerry was loosing by 11 points in Iowa until four days before the Caucus he trailed by 2, then three days before he was tied, then came the actual results in which he beat Howard Dean by what I believe if memory is correct 16 points."

He thinks that Mike Huckabee will do well in Iowa as well as Mitt Romney and he doesn't expect Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and possibly Fred Thompson to be too focused on this first caucus state.

CBS News: Paul Getting Harder to Ignore

In an article by Brian Montopoli on the CBS News website he says that: "...the campaign of Ron Paul, a libertarian Republican with a small but passionate fan base, is hinting that he's going to come in at over $3 million for the quarter – a number that makes him harder for the other candidates, and the press corps, to ignore."

Paul ended up raising around $5 million dollars for the third quarter, about the same as Sen. John McCain.

Thompson: Leave Gay Marriage to the States

The Associated Press Reports:

Thompson favors a constitutional amendment that bars judges from legalizing gay marriage, but also leaves open the door for state legislatures to approve the practice. He said social and religious conservatives who would prefer an amendment that also bars legislatures from legalizing gay marriage can live with his view.

McCain Prefers to Have a Christian President

Over the weekend Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain was asked during an interview with the religious website Beliefnet if a Muslim would be a good choice for president.

McCain responded by saying: "I just have to say in all candor that since this nation was founded primarily on Christian principles ... personally, I prefer someone who I know who has a solid grounding in my faith. But that doesn't mean that I'm sure that someone who is Muslim would not make a good president." He went onto say: "I would vote for a Muslim if he or she was the candidate best able to lead the country and defend our political values."

When asked if Mitt Romney's Mormon religion should be a determing factor in choosing the next president McCain said: "I think that Governor Romney's religion should not, absolutely not, be a disqualifying factor when people consider his candidacy for president of the United States."

Paul Campaign Hopeful For Cross Over Votes in NH

Rand Paul, son of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, is hopeful for cross over voters in the New Hampshire primary: "We definitely have Democrats that are crossing over, Libertarians crossing over, Independents crossing over. And I think the people that come out are definitely gonna vote," he said at a campaign rally in Manchester that drew a crowd of 800.

Cox Sends Letter to Social Conservatives

Republican presidential hopeful John Cox has written a letter posted on his website to social conservatives.

In the letter the Chicago businessman says: "While there are several candidates that have decent pro life and pro family records, equally clear is that many of these candidates are lacking in fiscal matters, have made seriously deficient statements in the past in regard to enforcing our immigration laws or have been members of a U.S. Congress that disappointed many conservatives in regard to the growth of government or addressing our serious challenges."

Cox also lists several reasons why he should be considered for the presidency. Among the reasons is: "I am a solid fiscal and social conservative with a long record of activism - an original member of the Club for Growth (Jack Kemp, Steve Forbes, Larry Kudlow, et.al), a longtime pro life and pro family activist (a member of and supporter of the Knights of Columbus, Illinois Family Institute, Pro Life Action League)."

Cox has not appeared yet in any of the national news media debates but was included in the Values Voter Debate, has appeared on Tucker on MSNBC, and will make his first appearance on a national news media debate on MSNBC in November.

Gingrich Won't Run

After just this morning saying he may be running for the Republican nomination Newt Gingrich says that he will not be a candidate for President or Vice President in 2008.

Reuters reports:

Gingrich, who previously said he was considering joining the race, told Fox News the McCain-Feingold campaign law would have forced him to leave his American Solutions political organization if he declared his candidacy.

Gingrich May Get In Race

Former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich says he may get in the presidential race if he can raise $30 million by mid-October.

"As a middle-class person, I can’t compete with Governor Romney, who can write a personal check for a hundred million dollars. But if there is a big enough citizen movement that wants to have somebody who could debate Senator Clinton next year and somebody who could outline and articulate our values, then I think we’d be compelled to run," Gingrich told Matt Lewis of Townhall.com.

There will be more details from Gingrich told to the news media on Monday according to Gingrich advisor J. Randolph Evans.

LP Candidates: Paul Not For Me

During tonight's This Is Politics Libertarian presidential candidate debate all three of the participants: George Phillies, Bob Jackson and Robert Milnes said that they would oppose Ron Paul if he seeks the 2008 Libertarian presidential nomination.

The question asked to the candidates asked was "...if Paul were to decide to seek the Libertarian nomination for a second time would you oppose him?" Here is how the candidates responded:

Robert Milnes: "Yes, I oppose him even being a member of the Libertarian party." "...he's running on the Republican ticket, never again vote Republican."

Bob Jackson: "...Ron Paul is out of phase for what it would take to for a Libertarian Party to put a candidate up that can govern the country. He's already polarized too many people and his issues are more argumentative and they're segmented." "He's been in Washington so long drinking that Potomac water, I don't think he has a total understanding of what is to be out here in real America."

George Phillies: "Ron Paul is a conservative Republican. He says he is in his fundraising literature." "I intend to do my best to make sure he is not our nominee because he has no business, with his modern stands, being the Libertarian Party nominee."

Ron Paul was the 1988 Libertarian nominee and has been endorsed by both the 2004 Libertarian presidential nominee, Michael Badnarik, and the '04 Vice presidential nominee, Richard Campagna.

1. Why should you be the next President?

Simple, none of the other candidates, on either side, are looking at the whole condition of our Nation. It is like a cruise ship with no one at the helm and everyone working below decks to keep the machinery running. Everyone has focused on individual issues without addressing the true direction our Nation is heading.
For the sake of my children and yours, in fact we need to worry about the next five years which really means you and I, we need someone with an eye to the horizon to steer our ship through the turbulent waters ahead.
The American worker is running out of money in their paychecks for supporting the projects of Washington.
Why I am different? I believe we must increase our tax base, not our tax rates. We must increase wages, put more people to work, build new business and new industry. We must push our economy into high gear, bring down the price of fuel, bring down the cost of food and increase the education of all people.
The only way to save America is to build our economy and not slow it down.
Adding 110 billion to the National budget for health-care, or any number of other domestic programs as the Democrats have proposed to increase our taxes, will drive this Country to recession as President Bush recently pointed out on September 21st, 2007. America cannot afford to pay for everything on the backs of the America worker.
Strong business and new innovative industry will move this Nation through the tough times ahead without forcing middle America to cut back their lifestyles and cut back their spending.
We must speed up our economy for some very basic reasons.
Americans cannot afford to pay more in taxes to support all of the programs which need to be addressed. We have a Social Security system on the verge of failing. We have increasing government costs for health-care. We have a crumbling infrastructure which needs to be rebuilt today. Food prices are starting a multi-year sky-rocketing phase which will place financial burden on every working American family in this Nation. And then there is the price you are paying for gasoline. We see these prices changing on nearly a daily bases to the up side. Our world population and economies have made this problem self indulging and self-sustaining. It will take only actions as I have proposed to stop the runaway consequences.
We are in a unique position today as a Nation to achieve the needed economic and technological growth required to overcome the social issues of our society. But you cannot fund this on the backs of the American worker or at the expense of the American children.
Be all of this said, remember one more thing. No other candidate will be held to higher standards and be held accountable for their promises to the America public. The eye of the Nation and the World will be on every step I make to ensure our Country moves in the directions promised.


2. What makes you the best choice for the Republican nomination?

All of the above, I have demonstrated the vision and business sense for real change and accomplishment within our Nation. My plans all work together to strengthen the American economy. Everyone is calling for change in Washington, but no one has offered the real solution until now. Even today on Meet the Press, Allen Greenspan acknowledged he is very concerned about the overall direction of the American economy and he is voicing concern about recession. I am the only candidate seeking to push our economy into “High Gear” in order to strengthen the power of the dollar in the American workers pocketbook. My plans bring stability back to household budgets and my plans fast-track technology to solve future energy production needs. Every other candidate has placed their careers and political motivation ahead of the needs of the people in this Nation. This is not a chess game; this is a position which requires understanding, compassions and a God given sense of direction.


3. How are you different from candidates like John Cox?

I bring a complete plan and vision for our Nation, no matter what issues are thrown in front of our course. Mr. Cox holds the standard Republican Party line which is fine and necessary, but again he is not looking to the overall direction the Ship of America is heading. Slow reaction policy will force our Nation into a slow recession. We must be pro-Active heading off any chance of further turmoil in our economic markets and in the pocketbooks of the American worker. A unified plan must take into account all markets, all theaters of operation and all affects on our society. Under John Cox, endless debate and inaction will stall any possible recovery. My Plans will win the situation in Iraq and protect what so many lives have fought to achieve. My Plan will bring our fighting troops home in a reasonable timeframe. My plans work to improve life in America for everyone, no matter what their beliefs or status. My plans will bring us closer to solving issues like energy production, curing Cancer and raising the educational level of this Nation as a whole. My plans build and protect this Nation for our children and their children.


4. What is your position on the Iraq War?

As explained, I want to see our troops out as soon as possible, while protecting what we have fought and died for. We do not want to see further or future problems arising out of this part of the Middle-East. My plans will improve diplomatic relations with all Nations and bring to bear the full strength and influence of the World. No one can afford the United States to falter in economic strength due to a failed Middle-East solution. The world depends on us as much as we do on them and therefore we have the upper hand in developing a solid, forceful and time drive solution which can be achieved on the diplomatic front to win this war once and for all!

5. How important are the issues of abortion and gay rights to you?

Family values have deteriorated in this Country. Our forefathers never envisioned the issues we are facing today. We must use and rely on faith in God to guide us on strengthening the moral issues we face. Abortion should never be a choice, unless it would result in the death, or other serious complications of the mother. Life is God given and should not be taken by mankind. Life starts at the moment of conception and there is no argument on this issue.
Marriage is, and should always be, “One Man and One Woman”. We must protect the moral integrity of this Nation and the Values which our founding fathers intended for all people. All people have rights and freedoms which must be protected as mandated under the constitution. Our Nation will work through these issues together with more open dialog between all people.

6. Will you support whomever becomes the Republican nominee?

I will support whoever becomes the nominee as the choice of the majority of the Republican Voters. We must work together to fight off the increased taxation proposed by the Democratic Party.

Dobson Opposes Thompson

Fred Thompson has been added to James Dobson's list of Republicans that he doesn't support. In an email to friends that the Associated Press obtained Dobson says: "Not for me, my brothers. Not for me!" referring to the former Tennessee Senator.

Dobson, who is the founder of Focus on the Family, went on to say: "Isn't Thompson the candidate who is opposed to a Constitutional amendment to protect marriage, believes there should be 50 different definitions of marriage in the U.S., favors McCain-Feingold, won't talk at all about what he believes, and can't speak his way out of a paper bag on the campaign trail?"

In responding to the email Sen. Thompson said: "If in fact this e-mail ... reflects his views, so be it. I have a lot of friends who I think are friends of his who have a high regard for me, and I'm very proud of that."

CP Goes After Hunter's Son for Military Service / Calls Keyes, Tancredo and Hunter ‘Tweedle Dee’ and ‘Tweedle Dum’ Candidates

I do not think it is right for the Constitution Party to include the fact that Hunter's son has served two tours in Iraq in their attack on Hunter's position on the war. Attacking a person for serving his country is just not acceptable.

It also doesn't make sense why the Constitution Party would include Hunter, Tancredo and Keyes in their presidential preference poll a while back when the Chair of the party says that all candidates out side of Ron Paul are "...‘Tweedle Dee’ and ‘Tweedle Dum’ candidates..."

Peroutka Endorses Paul for President

Michael Peroutka has become the second 2004 third party presidential candidate to endorse Ron Paul's campaign for the Republican nomination. Peroutka, who was the Constitution Party's candidate, joins the '04 Libertarian nominee Michael Badnarik in backing Paul.

"I endorse Rep. Ron Paul for President. And I endorse him not because he is the lesser of two evils. A Christian can never endorse any kind of evil. I endorse Rep. Paul because – from a Christian/Biblical and Constitutional perspective – he is, by far, the best candidate running for President," Peroutka said.

Huckabee Wins Value Voter Debate Straw Poll

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee won the Values Voter Debate held last night after the first Values Voter Debate.

Huckabee won with 219 of the 400 ballots cast, Ron Paul trailed far behind with just 44 votes, Brownback had 18 with Fred Thompson, who did not attend the debate, coming in fourth with 15 votes.

Even though the four front-runners were not present, this was the first major debate that Chicago businessman John Cox was invited to and was also Alan Keyes' first debate since announcing his third candidacy for the Republican nomination last week.

Four Republican presidential candidates are set to debate on This Is Politics tomorrow at 8:00 PM (ET) at www.blogtalkradio.com/tip.

Cort In Iowa

Republican presidential candidate Hugh Cort has had a good campaign trip to Iowa recently, according the most recent email sent out by his campaign.

"We gave a terrific speech to the Iowa Christian Alliance, praise God! One of the Iowa Christians said, 'Dr. Cort, I never heard anyone explain these issues and their solutions so well!' Our photographer, Allison, told me 'Dr. Cort, you really rocked!' (You know that made my day!)" Cort says in his message.

Cort, along with Dr. Paul Williams, will also be giving a counter-terrorism conference this Friday at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Ames, Iowa.

Gilmore No Longer A Candidate, Considering Run for State Office

Former Virginia governor Jim Gilmore has quit his campaign for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination and is now considering running for either US Senate in '08 or running for another term as governor in 2009.

Gilmore told the Politico that "Because of the front-loading of the primaries, I would have basically had to stop campaigning and spend full time organizing hundreds of people to raise money for me."

Corsi Won't Be Running

Jerome Corsi will not be seeking the presidential nomination of the Constitution Party in 2008.

Independent presidential candidate John Bootie answered these questions for the Conservative President 2008.

1. Why are you running for President?

When I was growing up it was a boy's dream to be president or astronaut or baseball player. I believe in the saying either your part of the solution or your part of the problem.. I believe I have the ability to do this Job as well as and I believe even better than the candidates I have seem say their running so far... I am not saying I have more experience I am saying I believe we honestly need New Blood in the Office. Someone who is not a so called insider.

2. Why are you the best choice for President?

I am single so I can devote my entire energies to the Office. I am fiscally responsible, Social Conservative! Ultra Conservative when it comes to money, and Hard Line when it comes to this Nations defense.. I am Willing to make the Hard choices no matter the Political winds or what polls say. As I say in my profile, if I don't TRY to make the changes I run ON. I wouldn't run again. This doesn't mean if I can't get them done because of partisan politics. I know their will be a hard fought fight to get this government on a new track for reform. I just hope these people in Washington are ready for a guy like me.

3. What is one of the top issues of your campaign?

My top two are both very important so I would say both.

War on Terror
Continue the WAR against terror, give General Petreus a full and unfettered go ahead to fight terror anyway HE SEE'S fit and needed to WIN. Have him remove the gloves and allow NO TIME TABLE to get out of Iraq or any country that is a terror hot spot. Go on a Media and Fighting blitz that would over shadow the Media's attempts to spin the war as wrong. Start a media campaign on the Internet to show every single good thing done in Iraq.

Border Security
Close the border with Mexico until we can control when and if people come in to our country. NO legal or illegal entry until the day, WE control the rate and legality of the people coming in to the USA . Give Anwar to the American Indians to pump for oil. This way there will be less government restrictions, and the environmentalists can not stop the development of domestic oil. Make a deal with the oil companies to build 2 refineries just over the border in Mexico. This deal would include a pay wage that would be at least equal to US refineries. This way the environmentalists can’t stop the building because of a bird, bug or snail. This would make a two way JOBS deal and help improve the problem of Illegal Aliens flowing into the USA trying to find better jobs. I'll push the use of Bio-diesel fuels, Ethanol-85, the production of coal to fuel and wind and solar powers as well.

4. Why not run for the nomination of a party such as the Constitution Party?

I did try contacting the Constitution Party twice. I emailed them and since there headquartered here in Lancaster, Pa. I called and left a message asking the founder Jim Clymer to call me back but received no reply either time. I know I am not a perfect match for the Constitution Party but I thought it worth giving us a chance to see if we are a possible match on most issues.

5. Do you think you can win?

Do I think I can win? YES!!!! If I didn't, why would I be in the race? The great part of our system is everyone has a right to run. It's the people who then decide on who they like the best. And who they think can do the Job the best. I know it's a long hard up hill battle since I can't get any of the Major media's outlets attention as of yet. But that's the beauty of the Internet. The Internet is far more powerful than the media today. The Internet is able to reach far more people and at a quicker pace. And often far more accountable and accurate.

This change is to make the show more inculisive of other points of view. I plan to start having guests on that are conservative, liberal and in-between.

Sen. Thompson To Join Race

Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson is set to file the paper work for a "testing the waters" committee this coming Monday, the day before the CNN Republican debate.

"Thompson, as of now, is seen by some as best positioned to be the guy who can keep this conservative coalition together," says Chuck Todd of NBC.

Todd goes onto say: "Like the rest of the three frontrunners, though, there are some positions Thompson has taken in the past (including supporting McCain-Feingold campaign finance regulation and abortion) that indicate Thompson may be just as muddy on some key conservative positions as Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani and John McCain."

Corsi to be on Show

Best-selling author and potential Constitution Party presidential candidate Jerome Corsi will be on the Online Conservative Show on June 18 at 8:00 PM (EST).

Huckabee Ready to End IRS

Mike Huckabee is ready to put an end the current tax system and replace it with what he calls a "consumption tax."

"You get rid of income tax, you get rid of all of the withholding, you get rid of corporate taxes completely, totally. "You replace it with a 23 percent consumption tax. It will bring business back to the United States that's leaving our shores because our tax laws make it impossible for an American-based business to compete," Huckabee said earlier this week on Fox News Sunday.

Huckabee Could Make Brownback 'Toast'

In the May 18 National Journal Republican candidate ranking Sam Brownback was ranked as number seven, behind Mike Huckabee.

The report said "He [Brownback] needs to take Huckabee out. If he doesn't, he's toast." While Huckabee, who came in number five, was said to be "comforting, reassuring, strong in the right ways, quick with a witty aside, respectful of his peers" in the last debate, even though he does not have the money or staff as other campaigns.

Cort Takes Straw Poll

Republican long shot Hugh Cort won the Narragansett and South Kingstown Presidential Straw Poll held last night in Narragansett, RI. Mitt Romney came in second, Rudy Giuliani third and Sen. John McCain came in fourth.

"Winning this straw poll proves you have to fight for votes in every state, you cannot do like other candidates and blow off a state like Rhode Island. Secondly, it shows that as folks hear our message of traditional Christian values and our plan to win the Iraq War and keep America safe, they respond in a positive manner," Cort was quoted as saying in an e-mail update.

Romney Criticized On Immigration Stand

Republican Mitt Romney if facing criticism over where he stands on the new immigration legislation as he campaigns in Florida.

Romney has called for the stronger boarder security, tamper-proof ID cards, and that illegals should go back to their country and "get in line."

To that Marshal Fitz of the American Immigration Lawyers Association says: ''That's exactly what's on the table. All of those things are part of the immigration package. Romney and the other candidates who continue to beat their chests against this legislation are just playing to the conservative base.''

Stufflebeam To Be On Show

Illinois Constitution Party chairman Randy Stufflebeam will be on the Online Conservative Show on Monday, June 4, at our new time 8:00 PM (EST).

I will be out of town next Monday so there will not be a show.

Cox Campaigning To Be Inclueded In Next Debate

Republican John Cox, who has not been included in the first two debates, is asking his supporters to contact the June 5th debate sponsors (CNN, WMUR-TV, and the New Hampshire Union Leader) and tell them to include him the debate.

Cox lists seven reasons on his website as to why he should be in the next debate. Among the reasons are "By adding John Cox to the debate, viewers will get another reason to watch the debate and they'll see John Cox criticize the other candidates, there will be fireworks thus creating news stories."

McCain Loses Temper

NewsMax reports that "Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. and Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, launched into a shouting match during a Thursday Capitol Hill meeting, where reportedly the presidential candidate dropped the 'F' word and more."

The argument apparently started when Cornyn brought up the subject of how many judicial appeals that illegal immigrants could get.

McCain went on to use vulgar words in the argument that reportedly took place in front of other Senators and aids in a meeting room.

Christine Smith Ill, Stand-in Will Take Place

I received an e-mail today that said Christine Smith, who is scheduled to speak at the Online LP candidate forum today, is ill and will not be able to speak. However, a stand-in from the Smith campaign will deliver her eight minute speech.

Republican Candidates on the new immigration legislation:

Mitt Romney:
"I strongly oppose today's bill going through the Senate. It is the wrong approach. Any legislation that allows illegal immigrants to stay in the country indefinitely, as the new 'Z-Visa' does, is a form of amnesty. That is unfair to the millions of people who have applied to legally immigrate to the U.S."

Tom Tancredo:
Bill creators "seem to think that they can dupe the American public into accepting a blanket amnesty if they just call it 'comprehensive' or 'earned legalization' or 'regularization.' The president is so desperate for a legacy and a domestic-policy win that he is willing to sell out the American people and our national security."

Duncan Hunter:
"I vow to oppose this legislation supported by Senators Edward Kennedy and John McCain.It provides a vast new immigration benefit to millions of illegal aliens who have broken our laws to live in the United States.I opposed the 1986 amnesty act because of this same reason.It proved to be the draw that we predicted it would be.I am deeply disappointed to see history repeating itself."

Corsi Tops Giuliani

Jerome Corsi (C) won the most recent match up poll here on the CP08 with 37.5% of the 24 votes cast, Rudy Giuliani came in second with 16.67%.

Hillary Clinton (D), Chuck Hagel (U-08) and Joe Lieberman (I) all tied for third with 12.5% each. Wayne Allyn Root (L) got 8.33%.

Giuliani-Huckabee Ticket Not Likely

GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee says he is not sure that he could be the running mate of a pro-abortion candidate (i.e. Rudy Giuliani) if does not become his party's nominee.

"This is an issue to me that is very critical," the Associated Press reports the former Arkansas governor as saying. "It's one of the reasons that I got into politics because I believe the manner in which we treat innocent life and the matter in which we respect human life, at whatever stage is an incredibly powerful statement about who we are as a people," Huckabee added.

The debate public form is meant to bring out the differences

When I think of a debate, it is a question and answer period of specific topics and how each opposing party would approach and solve the issue. It would include the tactics and resources one would employ in these circumstances. Although one minute is not long enough to elaborate on any subject to the appropriate degrees necessary, they should have answers that reflect a pattern of thought and planning.

Instead we find several of the candidates using rehearsed responses, even switching to previous questions not asked of them, so they may expound their sound bite.

Throughout these debates we find ourselves still asking, “What wouldthat person do?” They repeat the problems we face as a Nation and expound on the obvious responses they believe America wants to hear.

Rudy grasp the moment to assert himself and his role as Americas’ Mayor when Ron Paul announced that 911 was Americas fault.

McCain capitalized on Mitt Romney for changing positions.

Huckabee sized the moment to bring up a $400 haircut of John Edwards.

Fun aside, what has been accomplished? None of these candidates brought fourth any new ideas or solutions to current problems. They are not even acknowledging that every problem in this Country has affects in more then one area. Gasoline, the economy, wars overseas and our National foreign policies on trade all work together affecting the daily lives of Middle America. Change one item and how are they going to deal with the results in five other areas?

But what are the real answers? Everyone agrees that we can cut spending, but how would they use the savings generated from those cuts? Give it back to the people? Maybe invest it in other programs like Social Security without seeking a solution to that problem? Our next President must have clear and comprehensive plans and solutions if our Country is going to successfully move through the next few years.

During this debate, the candidates even struggled to identify just what spending cuts or departments they would eliminate. The candidates sometimes did not even answer the direct question which was posed to them. Former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore simply could not answer how he would protect the economy affect a terrorist attack. Mitt Romney said the key is prevention, but what in his platform would be different to create the prevention factor we need in this Nation.

My platform works together on many issues, all working in unison to create solutions to the problems we face. Each element in itself would be a benefit to our Country, but taken together creating a road map to a more peaceful and productive world, and the fulfillment of the American Dream for more people then ever possible before.

We need answers in future debates, real solutions and real plans. If these people had real plans for our future the debate answers would come naturally and smoothly. The only other unthinkable answer is that these people are simply afraid to alienate some of their voters and supporters at the cost of our Country. Is this the type of leader we need now?

Web Poll: Cox Should Have Debated

In poll held here on the Conservative President 2008, 85% of the 13 votes cast said that John Cox should have been in last night's debate.

Paul's Campaign Hurt In Debate

In last night's debate it appeared that Ron Paul blamed America for the 9-11 attacks. After the debate, however, Paul said: "No, I blamed bad policy over 50 years that leads to anti-Americanism. That’s little bit different from saying ‘blame America.’ Don’t put those words in my mouth.

"We’ve had an interventionist foreign policy for 50 years that has come back to haunt us. So that’s not ‘Blame America’ — that’s demagoguing, distorting issues…That’s deceitful to say those kinds of things."

Byron York comments:

So in the end, the candidate who made a big move, who came out of nowhere to win new name recognition was…Ron Paul. But it’s probably not the sort of name recognition Republican presidential candidates want. “Wow,” said one adviser to a rival campaign after listening to Paul’s blame-America lecture. “I haven’t heard anything like that this side of Rosie O’Donnell.”

Cox Excluded From Debate Despite Poll Results

World Net Daily Reports:

Cox said Fox did a poll of candidates registered to appear on the South Carolina primary ballot to determine who would be in the debate, and even though Cox actually finished first in one independent South Carolina county straw poll and placed second in another, he was left off the roster.

Cox said in the Fox poll, he actually was ahead of Jim Gilmore and Ron Paul. He said he was fifth against other candidates in an IowaPolitics.com survey.

"So, what did Fox do? They changed the rules, throwing out their poll and using new criteria that allowed their chosen 10 to participate while excluding Cox," his campaign said.

Cox did file a law suite against Fox News that he lost, he will be present in the audience despite not be permitted to be allowed in the debate.

Romney, Giuliani and Paul Leading Positive Ratings

Its about 30 minutes before the Fox News Channel GOP debate and on the MSNBC web site Mitt Romney has the highest positive rating of 31% of the nearly 4,440 votes.

Rudy Giuliani follows close behind with 30% and Ron Paul comes in third with 25%. John McCain is close on Paul's heels with a 23% positive rating.

The leaders in the negative rating side are: Sam Brownback (58%), Jim Gilmore and Tommy Thompson both with 56%, Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo each with a 55% negative rating and Mike Huckabee with 50%.

The candidate with the lowest negative rating is Ron Paul with 42%.

Gilchrist Leaves AIP, Rumors of Keyes Bolt

Don't expect to see Jim Gilchrsit become the next presidential candidate of the Constitution Party.

After doing very well as the candidate for the California American Independent Party (the state's CP affiliate) in a special congressional election in 2005 and mentioning a possible run under the party's banner for President, Trent Hill of the Louisiana Constitution Party told me yesterday that Gilchrist is now a member of the Republican Party.

Mr. Hill also said that although Alan Keyes is still in the GOP, there are rumors he is getting ready to bolt the party.

Paul Defeats Adams

Independent Steve Adams' online supporters were no match in the most recent poll held here on the Conservative President 2008.

Republican Ron Paul finished on top with 60.68% of the 117 votes cast. Adams followed behind with 29.06%.

Alan Keyes won 7.69% on the Constitution Party ticket followed by Libertarian George Phillies with just 1.71%, but Democrat Mike Gravel failed to get 1% of the vote receiving 0.85%.

Hunter 'Worthy of Serious Consideration by Conservative Voters'

Mark M. Alexander of the Conservative Voice says Republican Presidential candidate Duncan Hunter is "worthy of serious consideration by conservative voters."

Alexander says that: "A Republican ticket will need a lot of bang for the buck, cutting a significant swath into the Democrats' base -- without losses on the right. In his Demo-dominated district, Hunter has proven he can win Democrats' votes without waffling on conservative principles."

Gov. Beebe Attacks Huckabee Over Evolution Position

Current Arkansas governor Mike Beebe (D) does not think that his predecessor and Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee should have raised his hand in last week's to identify that he did not believe in evolution.

The Associated Press reports:

Governor Beebe says his predecessor was wrong in choosing to believe in God but not the theory of evolution. Beebe said yesterday that no choice between the two is required.

Paul Gets Highest Positive Reaction

After last week's debate Congressman Ron Paul came out on top of the 72,419 votes cast on the MSNBC website as of 8:10 Friday night with 32% positive rating. He also received the lowest negative rating of 29%.

McCain: GOP Not Likely To Nominate Pro Choice Candidate

"I think anything is possible, but I don't think it would be real easy," said Arizona Senator John McCain referring to the Republicans nominating a pro choice candidate for President. Brownback Would Support Pro Choice Candidate

In last night's debate, Kansas Senator Sam Brownback, who is very much pro life, said that he would support the party's nominee if he (i.e. Rudy Giuliani) were pro choice.

He said that if you agree with a candidate 80% of the time he is your friend.

Cort Responds to Debate

Hugh Cort, a Republican running for President, sent out an e-mail with his response to the last night's Republican debate, which he was not invited to.

“The frontrunner candidates proved career politicians will do nothing but offer more of the same. None of them offered a real plan to win in Iraq," said Cort, the author of Saddam's Attacks on America.

Cort went onto say: “It’s time the other candidates stop hiding from these issues and offer real solutions."

Mr. Cort will be on the Conservative Show, hosted by myself, on May 14.

McManigal Ends Campaign

Today I received an e-mail from Libertarian Kent McManigal, who just yesterday said he would like to attend the LP candidate forum on the 21st, sent me an e-mail saying he has ended his campaign.

"Last night while trying to delete spam comments, I accidentally deleted most of the content on the Boston Tea Party's website. That was the last straw for me. I appreciate all the encouragement and support I have received in the past two and a half years," McManigal explains on his blog.

Democrats Say Reagan Ran in '88

On the Democrat's web site they now have an individual section for each of the Republicans appearing in tonight's debate.

In the Ron Paul section, the well educated liberals say that Ron Paul ran against Ronald Reagan in 1988. Last I checked, Reagan did not seek an un-constitutional third term but, George HW Bush was elected to the presidency that year in large victory over Democrat Michael Dukakis. Good job Dems, you really know your stuff!

Republican Debate Thursday

Thursday at 8:00 PM (EST) the first Republican presidential debate will air on MSNBC.

Candidates to attend are: Sam Brownback, Jim Gilmore, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Tom Tancredo and Tommy Thompson.

Paul, Tancredo and Hunter Not Likely CP Candidates

Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter are all seeking the Republican nomination for the presidency. They are all also included in a presidential election poll on the Constitution Party web site, http://www.constitutionparty.com/.

Paul is currently leading with 45% in that poll as the first choice candidate for the Constitution Party nomination. Tancredo is in second 21% and just 5% are in favor of Hunter.

What is the reality that one of these men will become the next CP nominee? I believe there is none. Yesterday on my show the Louisiana CP contact Trent Hill said that not of these these men are currently interested in a Constitution Party run but, their is still a slim possibility that one of them may.

However, Hunter probably is the least likely to make a third party run since his son is planning on running as a Republican to replace his father in congress.
