Romney Gets Anti-Endorsement from NH Newspaper

The New Hampshire Concord Monitor made an anti-endorsement instead of an endorsement for the Republican presidential nomination for 2008. The paper's editors told readers why Mitt Romney "surely must be stopped."

The paper said: "When New Hampshire partisans are asked to defend the state's first-in-the-nation primary, we talk about our ability to see the candidates up close, ask tough questions and see through the baloney. If a candidate is a phony, we assure ourselves and the rest of the world, we'll know it. Mitt Romney is such a candidate. New Hampshire Republicans and independents must vote no."

Tancredo Quits Race, Endorses Romney

Tom Tancredo ended his campaign for the Republican nomination today and endorsed Mitt Romney.

The Colorado congressman ended his campaign because he did not want to be a spoiler that could lead to a candidate that is weak on immigration getting the nomination. Tancredo said that Romney has a "solid record" on immigration and he could "go the distance."

Romney: Huckabee Too Liberal

Mitt Romney has attacked Mike Huckabee as being too liberal to get to get the GOP nomination. Romney said that the former Arkansas governor has been: "too liberal on immigration," "too liberal on crime" and "too liberal of a spending record and too liberal of a tax record."

"I'm convinced that as people take a close look, that the good, conservative Republicans of South Carolina will be supporting a conservative candidate like myself and they won't be supporting governor Huckabee," says Romney despite a poll that shows Huckabee with a small lead in South Carolina.

National Review Endorses Romney

The conservative National Review magazine has endorsed Mitt Romney for President. "Our guiding principle has always been to select the most conservative viable candidate. In our judgment, that candidate is Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts," say the magazine editors.

They go onto say: "Some conservatives question his sincerity. It is true that he has reversed some of his positions. But we should be careful not to overstate how much he has changed. In 1994, when he tried to unseat Ted Kennedy, he ran against higher taxes and government-run health care, and for school choice, a balanced budget amendment, welfare reform, and 'tougher measures to stop illegal immigration.' He was no Rockefeller Republican even then."

Romney Would 'Serve No One Religion'

Addressing his Mormon faith in a speech Thursday night Republican Mitt Romney said that as President he would "serve no one religion, no one group, no one cause. A president must serve only the common cause of the people of the United States."

He wento onto say: "It is important to recognize that, while differences in theology exist between the churches in America, we share a common creed of moral convictions."

Pro Choice Group to Target Romney

The pro choice group Republican Majority for Choice will start running ads in Iowa and New Hampshire targeting Mitt Romney as a flip flopper on abortion. Romney sought and received the endorsement of the group when he ran for governor in 2002.

"He's an opportunist. It's important for voters to know who they are voting for," says Jennifer Blei Stockman who is the co-chair of the Republican Majority for Choice. "If we weren't so betrayed by the dishonesty of Mitt Romney's actions, we would not be running ads."

A Romney spokesperson said that: "Governor Romney will not back down from his pro-life position, despite this group's attempts to weaken the party platform and promote Mayor Giuliani's pro-choice candidacy."

Huckabee Passes Romney

Mike Huckabee has passed Mitt Romney in support according the most recent Rasmussen Research Poll released on Friday.

The poll has Huckabee at 12%, just ahead of Romney who is at 11%. Giuliani leads the poll with 20% followed by Thompson at 19% and McCain at 14%.

"What we're seeing is the power of message over money and mechanics. Our supporters are enthusiastic because they believe in my conservative message," Huckabee said.

It is evident that no one candidate has the GOP nomination locked up.

Baldwin: 'Bob Jones Dances With The Devil'

Chuck Baldwin, 2004 Constitution Party vice presidential candidate and possible '08 presidential candidate, says that Bob Jones III, chancellor and former president of Bob Jones University, has chosen to "dance with the devil" because of his endorsement of Mitt Romney for President.

"Bob Jones’ endorsement of the former Massachusetts governor illustrates just how low the Religious Right will go in compromising bedrock principle for the sake of political expediency. Jones says he is supporting Romney so as to help defeat Rudy Giuliani. I very much want to see what Jones will do if and when Giuliani gets the Republican nomination. I would anticipate that he will continue to follow his current modus operandi and support Giuliani, because he would then say that Giuliani is the 'lesser of two evils,'" Baldwin says.

He goes onto say: "Why do I say that? Because Jones is already demonstrating that he will support one liberal over another liberal. Mitt Romney is not a conservative--not by any measure of the word. And I am confident that Bob Jones knows it."

Since Bob Jones III's endorsement of Romney, Bob Jones University has released a statement saying that the university does not endorse any candidate for the office of President.

Romney, Huckabee Neck and Neck in Values Voter Straw Poll, McCain Comes in Last

Mitt Romney won today's straw poll at the Values Voters' Summit with 1,595 votes, just 30 votes more than Mike Huckabee's 1,565.

Ron Paul came in third with 865 votes followed by Fred Thompson who recieved 564 votes. Sam Brownback, who ended his campaign yesterday, had 297 votes bringing him ahead of Duncan Hunter at 140 and Tom Tancredo at 133.

However, Rudy Giuliani did not finish last. The former New York City mayor came ahead of John McCain with 107 votes compared to McCain's 81.

Romney Criticized On Immigration Stand

Republican Mitt Romney if facing criticism over where he stands on the new immigration legislation as he campaigns in Florida.

Romney has called for the stronger boarder security, tamper-proof ID cards, and that illegals should go back to their country and "get in line."

To that Marshal Fitz of the American Immigration Lawyers Association says: ''That's exactly what's on the table. All of those things are part of the immigration package. Romney and the other candidates who continue to beat their chests against this legislation are just playing to the conservative base.''

"I strongly oppose today's bill going through the Senate. It is the wrong approach. Any legislation that allows illegal immigrants to stay in the country indefinitely, as the new 'Z-Visa' does, is a form of amnesty. Tom Tancredo:
Bill creators "seem to think that they can dupe the American public into accepting a blanket amnesty if they just call it 'comprehensive' or 'earned legalization' or 'regularization.' Duncan Hunter:
"I vow to oppose this legislation supported by Senators Edward Kennedy and John McCain.It provides a vast new immigration benefit to millions of illegal aliens who have broken our laws to live in the United States.I opposed the 1986 amnesty act because of this same reason.It proved to be the draw that we predicted it would be.I am deeply disappointed to see history repeating itself."

Romney, Giuliani and Paul Leading Positive Ratings

Its about 30 minutes before the Fox News Channel GOP debate and on the MSNBC web site Mitt Romney has the highest positive rating of 31% of the nearly 4,440 votes.

Rudy Giuliani follows close behind with 30% and Ron Paul comes in third with 25%. John McCain is close on Paul's heels with a 23% positive rating.

The leaders in the negative rating side are: Sam Brownback (58%), Jim Gilmore and Tommy Thompson both with 56%, Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo each with a 55% negative rating and Mike Huckabee with 50%.

The candidate with the lowest negative rating is Ron Paul with 42%.

Poll: McCain Takes Lead, Thompson Takes On Romney

After coming in second place in recent Republican polls, Sen. John McCain came in first place with 22% in a poll held in South Carolina.

Rudy Giuliani came in second with 19% but, Mitt Romney lost his third place position to Fred Thompson who scored 11% with Romney close behind with 10%. South Carolina governor Mark Sanford, who has said he will not run, finished fourth with 8%.

FMR. IA Christian Alliance Director Joins Romney Campaign

Former Iowa Christian Alliance Director Joe Earle is now working for the Romney campaign. It was announced today that Earle would be working to get support for Romney throughout the state of Iowa.

Earle said "Governor Romney has an impressive record on the issues that matter most to conservative Christian voters. Whether leading the fight for traditional marriage, implementing abstinence education programs or standing strong on Life, Governor Romney has shown the integrity and leadership necessary to move our nation forward."

Romney On Euthanasia

This past weekend Mitt Romney stated where he stands on what happened to Terri Schiavo, who's life was ended by euthanasia.

Romney believes "it's probably best to leave these kinds of matters in the hands of the courts. I generally think that it's not a good idea for courts to legislate. Nor is it a great idea for legislatures to adjudicate in a specific circumstance."

How can Romney be pro-euthanasia and really be pro-life? Both abortion and euthanasia end innocent lives and neither practice should occur.
