Fmr. Sen. Bob Smith Endorses Hunter

Former New Hampshire Senator Bob Smith endorsed Duncan Hunter for President today. "Congressman Hunter is a moral man, an inspirational leader and a no nonsense conservative who will always put 'principle above politics' in the image of the late great New Hampshire patriot Meldrim Thomson," said Smith.

Smith served in the U.S. Senate from 1990-2003 and made a brief run for President in 2000 as a Republican, Constitution candidate and Independent before dropping out and endorsing Bush. In 2004 Smith, after losing re-nomination in 2002 and moving to Florida to be a real estate agent, endorsed Democrat John Kerry for President because of Kerry's plan to reduce the national debt.

It has also been rumored that Smith is considering making a run for the Constitution Party presidential nomination in 2008.

Hunter: GOP Not Likely to Nominate Pro Choice Candidate

In an online interview with CBS, Republican presidential candidate Duncan Hunter was asked if the Republican candidate ends up being a social moderate, should conservatives consider a third party.

His response was: "Well, first, I challenge the premise of your question. Because more than two-thirds of the Republican electorate is pro-life. So you’re asking me to presume that the Republican Party, which is dominated by people who are pro-life, would nominate somebody who is not pro-life. I don’t think that happens."

Romney, Huckabee Neck and Neck in Values Voter Straw Poll, McCain Comes in Last

Mitt Romney won today's straw poll at the Values Voters' Summit with 1,595 votes, just 30 votes more than Mike Huckabee's 1,565.

Ron Paul came in third with 865 votes followed by Fred Thompson who recieved 564 votes. Sam Brownback, who ended his campaign yesterday, had 297 votes bringing him ahead of Duncan Hunter at 140 and Tom Tancredo at 133.

However, Rudy Giuliani did not finish last. The former New York City mayor came ahead of John McCain with 107 votes compared to McCain's 81.

Hunter A Qualified Conservative

Many are overlooking California Congressman Duncan Hunter for the Republican presidential nomination, which is really too bad because he is a well qualified conservative.

Hunter has served in the House of Representatives since 1981 and has always been a conservative. The American Conservative Union even gave him a 92% life time rating.

As a Vietnam War veteran and former Chairman of the Armed Service Committee he is a knowledgeable candidate on National Security.

Hunter is also a strong supporter of the right to life for everyone. He supports a constitutional amendment to define "person hood" as beginning at conception and has been given a 100% rating from National Right to Life.

Through his efforts a fence was constructed along the U.S.-Mexico boarder in San Diego, which resulted in a 90% decrease of illegal immigration in that area. He is also opposed to amnesty for the current illegal immigrants in America. He was in opposition to the Kennedy-McCain amnesty bill that failed to pass earlier this year.

A believer that marriage is between one man and one woman, Rep. Hunter supports a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriages.

Hunter is also a strong supporter of Israel, missile defense and the 2nd amendment. He received an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association.

Myers: Look for Hunter, Keyes and Brownback to Drop Out

Political blogger Daniel Myers says in a new article on his website that he thinks that Alan Keyes, Duncan Hunter and Sam Brownback will drop out of the race either before or right after the Iowa Caucus in January.

Myers says: "Whoever is leading 2-3 days before the Caucus is possibly going to be the winner. Kerry was loosing by 11 points in Iowa until four days before the Caucus he trailed by 2, then three days before he was tied, then came the actual results in which he beat Howard Dean by what I believe if memory is correct 16 points."

He thinks that Mike Huckabee will do well in Iowa as well as Mitt Romney and he doesn't expect Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and possibly Fred Thompson to be too focused on this first caucus state.

CP Goes After Hunter's Son for Military Service / Calls Keyes, Tancredo and Hunter ‘Tweedle Dee’ and ‘Tweedle Dum’ Candidates

I do not think it is right for the Constitution Party to include the fact that Hunter's son has served two tours in Iraq in their attack on Hunter's position on the war. Attacking a person for serving his country is just not acceptable.

It also doesn't make sense why the Constitution Party would include Hunter, Tancredo and Keyes in their presidential preference poll a while back when the Chair of the party says that all candidates out side of Ron Paul are "...‘Tweedle Dee’ and ‘Tweedle Dum’ candidates..."

GOP Candidates On New Immigration Plan

"I strongly oppose today's bill going through the Senate. It is the wrong approach. Any legislation that allows illegal immigrants to stay in the country indefinitely, as the new 'Z-Visa' does, is a form of amnesty. Tom Tancredo:
Bill creators "seem to think that they can dupe the American public into accepting a blanket amnesty if they just call it 'comprehensive' or 'earned legalization' or 'regularization.' The president is so desperate for a legacy and a domestic-policy win that he is willing to sell out the American people and our national security."

Duncan Hunter:
"I vow to oppose this legislation supported by Senators Edward Kennedy and John McCain.It provides a vast new immigration benefit to millions of illegal aliens who have broken our laws to live in the United States.I opposed the 1986 amnesty act because of this same reason.It proved to be the draw that we predicted it would be.I am deeply disappointed to see history repeating itself."

Hunter 'Worthy of Serious Consideration by Conservative Voters'

Mark M. Alexander of the Conservative Voice says Republican Presidential candidate Duncan Hunter is "worthy of serious consideration by conservative voters."

Alexander says that: "A Republican ticket will need a lot of bang for the buck, cutting a significant swath into the Democrats' base -- without losses on the right. In his Demo-dominated district, Hunter has proven he can win Democrats' votes without waffling on conservative principles."

Paul, Tancredo and Hunter Not Likely CP Candidates

Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter are all seeking the Republican nomination for the presidency. They are all also included in a presidential election poll on the Constitution Party web site, http://www.constitutionparty.com/.

Paul is currently leading with 45% in that poll as the first choice candidate for the Constitution Party nomination. Tancredo is in second 21% and just 5% are in favor of Hunter.

What is the reality that one of these men will become the next CP nominee? I believe there is none. Yesterday on my show the Louisiana CP contact Trent Hill said that not of these these men are currently interested in a Constitution Party run but, their is still a slim possibility that one of them may.

However, Hunter probably is the least likely to make a third party run since his son is planning on running as a Republican to replace his father in congress.

Final Vote: McCain Wins

After what looked like a sure victory for either Rudy Giuliani or Duncan Hunter, John McCain finished in first in the Spartansburg County, South Carolina, straw poll.

With all precincts reporting, McCain, who was in third place as of Thursday night, finished in the top slot with 164 votes. Giulaini reciecved 162 votes and Hunter 158 votes.

Giuliani Makes a Narrow Victory Over Hunter

A day after he officially announced his candidacy for the Presidency, Senator John McCain came within a few votes of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and California Congressman Duncan Hunter in a straw poll held in Spartanburg County, South Carolina.

Out of about 800 ballots cast and 81 out of 92 precincts reporting in this conservative county, Giuliani received 158 votes, Hunter 152 votes, and McCain came in third with 116 votes.

Other candidates also included in the poll were: Senator Sam Brownback, 83 votes, Mitt Romney, 80 votes, and Mike Huckabee, 21 votes.

Hunter Hopes for Conservative Backing

Duncan Hunter is hoping to gain the support the conservative base of the Republican Party, "For some candidates the conservative constituency is an inconvenience. For me, it is my hope," said the California Congressman. Hunter is pro life and authored the legislation calling for a 854 mile fence to be placed along the Mexico boarder.

Hunter Makes It Official

California U.S. Representative Duncan Hunter, who formed an exploratory committee this past October, has made his candidacy official.

"Let's begin this race for the American presidency and let's win," Hunter said at the end of his announcement speech.

The New York Times reports that "Mr. Hunter, 58, said his candidacy would emphasize his support for the war in Iraq, his opposition to abortion and his belief in free trade."

Hunter on Illegal Immigration

Congressman Duncan Hunter, a 2008 Republican Presidential hopeful, is opposed to illegal immigration and in support of the 700 mile fence along the Mexico boarder.

Hunter also said, "I think that you have to enforce the law and that includes employer sanctions," NewsMax reports Hunter as saying.

Hunter Recieved 100% and 0%

Congressman Duncan Hunter, who has formed an exploratory committee for the 2008 Republican Presidential nomination, received a 100% rating from the Christian Coalition in 2003, indicating a pro family voting record. Also in 2003, the pro choice organization NARAL gave Hunter a 0%, showing he has a pro life voting record.
