Is it Waste to Vote Third Party?

Recently Republican candidate for Illinois governor Judy Baar Topinka, a liberal, stated that people voting for the third party candidate that will be on the ballot, Rich Whitney (Green Party), would "waste their vote".

As is noted in the 2006 endorsement list, the Conservative President 2008 does not support any of the candidates that will be on the ballot in Illinois, we support write in candidate Randy Stufflebeam. Conservative President 2008 also supports another non-major party, Timm Knibbs (Concerned Citizen's Party) who is running for US Senate in Connecticut.

When does a person waste their vote? When that person chooses to vote for a candidate that is the lesser of two (or more) evils, and in the case of the Illinois governor's election Judy Baar Topinka and Democrat Rod Blagojevich come in a tie with Green Rich Whitney coming in a close third.

Thank you for your support and endorsement! I have listed the "Conservative President 208" website on my website and an endorsee for more than a month now with links back to this website.

There are phenominal things happening in Illinois and Judy is just starting to see the support that we have. While I don't know what will happen on the 7th, we are already hearing that we are setting records.

God Bless!
Randall C. Stufflebeam

As I've been writing at great length on my blog, you are of course quite correct.

If conservatives will support non-conservative candidates, why should any party offer us a conservative candidate? If we vote Republican in lockstep, no matter in how much contempt someone like Ms. Topinka holds us, why should we be surprised to find that we're told that conservative candidates are "unelectable" and that we must "compromise" in the name of "unity" and vote with the party?

If, on the other hand, we can send the message that candidates who do not appeal to our values will not have our votes, then perhaps we can get someone truly conservative to vote for.
